Overview

As a Lead Avionics Systems Engineer at Honeywell, you will spearhead the design, integration, and certification of advanced avionics systems for commercial and military aircraft. Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the full systems engineering lifecycle for avionics programs, from requirements definition to verification and validation.
  • Develop and integrate complex avionics architectures, including flight management systems (FMS), navigation, and communication subsystems.
  • Conduct system-level trade studies, risk assessments, and failure modes analysis (FMEA) to optimize performance and reliability.
  • Mentor junior engineers and collaborate with hardware, software, and certification teams to resolve integration challenges.
  • Interface with customers and regulatory authorities to ensure compliance and successful certification.
  • Drive innovation in next-generation avionics, leveraging model-based systems engineering (MBSE) tools like Cameo Systems Modeler.

  • 8+ years of experience in avionics systems engineering, with proven leadership in complex aerospace programs (experience)
  • In-depth knowledge of avionics standards including DO-178C, DO-254, ARP4754A, and ARP4761 (experience)
  • Experience with systems integration, requirements management tools (e.g., DOORS, Polarion), and MBSE methodologies (experience)
  • Demonstrated ability to lead cross-functional teams and manage project timelines in a fast-paced environment (experience)
  • U.S. citizenship or ability to obtain security clearance due to ITAR/EAR requirements (experience)

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Aerospace or Systems Engineering (experience)
  • Professional certification such as INCOSE Certified Systems Engineering Professional (CSEP) (experience)
  • Experience with Honeywell avionics products or similar (e.g., Primus Epic, IntuVue) (experience)

Responsibilities

  • Architect and design integrated avionics systems, ensuring compliance with safety-critical standards and performance requirements
  • Lead requirements elicitation, allocation, and traceability using tools like IBM DOORS NextGen
  • Perform system modeling, simulation, and analysis using MATLAB/Simulink and SysML for trade studies and verification
  • Oversee hardware-software integration testing, including hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) and iron bird simulations
  • Conduct hazard analysis, FMECA, and safety assessments to mitigate risks in avionics architectures
  • Collaborate with certification teams to prepare certification plans and artifacts for FAA/EASA approval
  • Mentor and develop team members while driving continuous improvement in engineering processes
