Overview

Join Honeywell's Control Systems (CS) Environmental Control Systems (ECS) organization as a Lead Dynamic Modeling Systems Engineer. Be integral to a team designing, developing, and integrating highly complex systems for a variety of aircraft, including Air Transport, Regional, Business, Urban Air Mobility, and Military platforms. You will contribute across the full systems lifecycle—from business development and requirements definition through design, verification, integration, and product end-of-life. Key Responsibilities

  • Develop advanced dynamic models for environmental control systems using tools like MATLAB/Simulink, Modelica, or similar platforms to simulate aircraft ECS behavior under diverse flight conditions.
  • Lead model-based systems engineering (MBSE) efforts, including requirements traceability, architecture design, and trade studies for ECS subsystems.
  • Perform dynamic simulations, stability analysis, and control system tuning to optimize performance, fuel efficiency, and safety.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including software, hardware, and test engineers, to integrate models into full-system simulations and hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) testing.
  • Mentor junior engineers and lead technical reviews, ensuring compliance with aerospace standards such as ARP4754A and DO-178C.
  • Support certification activities by generating evidence through modeling and simulation for FAA/EASA/MIL-STD approvals.

  • 5+ years of experience in dynamic systems modeling and simulation for aerospace or control systems (experience)
  • Proven experience with aircraft environmental control systems (ECS) or similar avionics subsystems (experience)
  • Hands-on expertise in MATLAB/Simulink, Modelica, or equivalent modeling tools (experience)
  • Experience with model-based systems engineering (MBSE) and full systems lifecycle processes (experience)
  • U.S. Person status due to ITAR/EAR export control requirements (experience)

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree or PhD in Aerospace Engineering or related field (experience)
  • Experience with aircraft certification processes (FAA, EASA, or MIL-STD) (experience)
  • Proficiency in Python, C++, or SysML for advanced modeling and automation (experience)

Responsibilities

  • Develop and validate high-fidelity dynamic models of ECS components, including air cycle machines, heat exchangers, and control loops
  • Lead trade studies and sensitivity analyses to optimize system performance across operating envelopes
  • Integrate dynamic models into system-level simulations and support HIL/ SIL testing campaigns
  • Conduct linear and nonlinear stability analyses, root locus, Bode plots, and frequency response evaluations
  • Collaborate with customers and stakeholders to define modeling requirements and verify solutions against flight test data
  • Mentor team members on best practices in dynamic modeling and provide technical leadership in design reviews
  • Document models, simulations, and analyses for regulatory compliance and knowledge transfer
