Lead Engineering Technician

Location: Phoenix, AZ | Workplace: On-site | Honeywell

Overview

Join Honeywell's innovative engineering team as a Lead Engineering Technician in our state-of-the-art Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) lab in Phoenix, AZ. You will play a pivotal role in supporting non-destructive test engineering inspections on a diverse range of Honeywell products, including mechanical and electrical components used in aerospace, defense, and industrial applications. Reporting directly to our Senior Director of Engineering, you will lead a team of technicians in ensuring the highest standards of quality and reliability for fielded hardware, test articles, R&D prototypes, and production units. Key Responsibilities

  • Lead NDT inspections using techniques such as ultrasonic testing (UT), radiographic testing (RT), magnetic particle testing (MT), liquid penetrant testing (PT), and eddy current testing (ET) on complex mechanical and electrical assemblies.
  • Supervise and mentor a team of engineering technicians, providing technical guidance and ensuring compliance with industry standards like ASNT and NADCAP.
  • Develop and validate NDT procedures, techniques, and calibration standards for new product introductions and process improvements.
  • Analyze inspection data, identify defects or anomalies, and generate detailed reports with recommendations for engineering teams.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams including design engineers, quality assurance, and production to resolve non-conformances and support root cause analysis.
  • Maintain NDT lab equipment, ensure safety protocols are followed, and drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance inspection efficiency and accuracy.

  • Level II or Level III certification in multiple NDT methods (e.g., UT, RT, MT, PT, ET) per ASNT SNT-TC-1A or equivalent (experience)
  • Proven leadership experience supervising technical teams in a lab or production environment (experience)
  • Strong understanding of aerospace quality standards such as AS9100, NADCAP, and FAA regulations (experience)
  • Proficiency in NDT equipment operation, data analysis, and report generation (experience)

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering (experience)
  • NAS 410 or EN4179 NDT certification (experience)
  • Experience with automated NDT systems or digital radiography (experience)

Responsibilities

  • Perform and lead advanced NDT inspections on mechanical and electrical Honeywell products using UT, RT, MT, PT, ET, and visual testing methods
  • Develop, qualify, and document NDT procedures and techniques for R&D, production, and field return hardware
  • Train, mentor, and evaluate junior technicians to maintain team competency and certification standards
  • Conduct data analysis using software tools to detect defects, perform sizing, and support failure investigations
  • Collaborate with engineering, quality, and production teams to implement corrective actions and process optimizations
  • Maintain NDT lab equipment calibration, safety compliance, and inventory management
  • Generate comprehensive inspection reports and present findings to senior leadership and stakeholders
