As a Lead Mechanical Design Engineer, you will spearhead the design and development of advanced mechanical systems for Honeywell's aerospace, building technologies, and performance materials divisions. Reporting to the Engineering Manager, you will drive innovation in high-stakes environments, ensuring our solutions meet rigorous performance, safety, and sustainability standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the conceptual design, modeling, and analysis of complex mechanical components and assemblies using CAD software like SolidWorks or Creo.
  • Conduct finite element analysis (FEA) and computational fluid dynamics (CFD) simulations to optimize designs for strength, thermal performance, and manufacturability.
  • Mentor and guide a team of junior engineers, fostering a culture of technical excellence and continuous improvement.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including systems engineering, manufacturing, and quality assurance, to integrate designs into production-ready solutions.
  • Develop and execute design verification plans, including prototyping, testing, and validation against industry standards such as AS9100 and ISO 9001.
  • Drive root cause analysis and corrective actions for design-related issues using tools like Six Sigma and DFMEA.
  • Stay abreast of emerging technologies in additive manufacturing, sustainable materials, and smart systems to innovate Honeywell's product portfolio.

  • Proven expertise in 3D CAD modeling and simulation tools (e.g., SolidWorks, ANSYS, Creo) (experience)
  • Experience in aerospace, defense, or industrial automation sectors with knowledge of relevant standards (e.g., MIL-STD, FAA regulations) (experience)
  • Demonstrated ability to lead cross-functional teams and manage project timelines (experience)
  • U.S. citizenship or ability to obtain security clearance due to ITAR/EAR compliance (experience)

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline (experience)
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license or ASQ Certified Six Sigma Black Belt (experience)
  • Experience with additive manufacturing, composites, or electromechanical systems (experience)

Responsibilities

  • Lead the end-to-end design of mechanical systems, from concept sketches to production prototypes
  • Perform detailed stress, vibration, and thermal analyses to ensure design robustness under extreme conditions
  • Coordinate with suppliers and manufacturing teams to optimize designs for cost, quality, and scalability
  • Develop technical documentation, including GD&T drawings, BOMs, and engineering change orders
  • Mentor junior engineers on best practices in mechanical design and simulation methodologies
  • Conduct design reviews and risk assessments to mitigate potential failures
  • Innovate sustainable design solutions aligned with Honeywell's environmental goals
