Overview

As a Machinist - Level 2 on the 2nd Shift (FAA) at Honeywell's state-of-the-art facility in Phoenix, Arizona, you will play a critical role in producing precision aerospace components that meet stringent FAA regulations. Reporting directly to the ISC Production Supervisor, you will operate advanced CNC machines, perform maintenance, and ensure the highest standards of quality and safety in a fast-paced manufacturing environment. This onsite position offers a hybrid workplace flexibility for certain training and meetings, but primary duties require hands-on presence during 2nd shift hours (typically 3:00 PM - 11:30 PM). Key Responsibilities

  • Operate and set up CNC lathes, mills, and multi-axis machines to produce complex parts from blueprints and specifications.
  • Perform routine maintenance, troubleshooting, and calibration on machining equipment to minimize downtime and ensure optimal performance.
  • Inspect finished components using precision measuring tools like micrometers, calipers, and CMMs, ensuring compliance with FAA and Honeywell quality standards.
  • Adhere to all safety protocols, including lockout/tagout procedures, PPE usage, and 5S methodologies to maintain a zero-incident workplace.
  • Collaborate with engineering and quality teams to resolve production issues and implement process improvements for efficiency gains.
  • Maintain accurate production records, including material usage, cycle times, and defect reports in Honeywell's ERP system.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives, such as Lean manufacturing and Six Sigma projects, to enhance throughput and reduce waste.

  • 2-4 years of hands-on experience as a machinist in an aerospace or regulated manufacturing environment (experience)
  • Proficiency in reading and interpreting technical blueprints, GD&T symbols, and FAA-approved specifications (experience)
  • Demonstrated ability to operate CNC mills, lathes, and grinders with minimal supervision (experience)
  • Strong commitment to safety standards and quality control in a production setting (experience)
  • Ability to work 2nd shift schedule (3:00 PM - 11:30 PM) with flexibility for overtime as needed (experience)

Preferred Qualifications

  • Associate's degree in Manufacturing Technology, Precision Machining, or related field (experience)
  • FAA repair station experience or AS9100 quality system certification (experience)
  • Familiarity with Mastercam or similar CAD/CAM programming software (experience)

Responsibilities

  • Set up and operate multi-axis CNC machines to machine tight-tolerance aerospace components from materials like titanium, aluminum, and stainless steel
  • Conduct first article inspections (FAI) and in-process checks to verify part conformance to engineering drawings and FAA requirements
  • Perform preventive maintenance and minor repairs on machining centers, tooling, and fixtures to sustain production uptime above 95%
  • Utilize precision inspection equipment to measure and document part dimensions, ensuring zero defects escape to final assembly
  • Identify and report process deviations, collaborating with supervisors to implement corrective actions and root cause analysis
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area per 5S standards, contributing to a culture of safety and efficiency
  • Assist in training junior machinists and participate in kaizen events to drive operational improvements
