Machinist - Level 2 (FAA) - 2nd Shift

Location: Phoenix, Arizona | Workplace: On-site | Shift: 2nd Shift (3:30 PM - 12:00 AM)

In this critical role, you will operate advanced CNC machinery to produce precision aerospace components compliant with FAA regulations. Reporting directly to the ISC Production Supervisor, you will lead a small team of machinists, optimize machining processes, and ensure on-time delivery of high-quality parts that power Honeywell's aerospace innovations. Key Responsibilities

  • Operate and program multi-axis CNC mills, lathes, and grinders to machine complex aluminum, titanium, and stainless steel parts to exacting FAA-approved tolerances.
  • Lead a team of 4-6 junior machinists, providing hands-on training, mentoring, and performance feedback to meet daily production targets.
  • Perform in-process inspections using CMM, micrometers, and optical comparators, documenting results to maintain 100% quality compliance.
  • Optimize tool paths, feeds, and speeds to reduce cycle times by up to 20% while minimizing scrap and material waste.
  • Collaborate with engineering and quality teams to troubleshoot machining issues, implement process improvements, and support root cause analysis for non-conformances.
  • Maintain 5S standards, calibrate equipment, and adhere to Honeywell's safety protocols and FAA Part 145 repair station requirements.

  • Ability to read and interpret complex engineering blueprints, GD&T symbols, and FAA-approved technical specifications (experience)
  • Experience with precision inspection tools including CMM, bore gauges, and height micrometers (experience)

Preferred Qualifications

  • Associate's degree in Manufacturing Technology or Precision Machining (experience)
  • FAA Airframe & Powerplant (A&P) certification or AS9100 quality system experience (experience)
  • Lean Six Sigma Green Belt certification with proven process improvement projects (experience)

Responsibilities

  • Set up, program, and operate CNC machinery to produce precision aerospace components meeting FAA tolerances of ±0.0005 inches
  • Lead and mentor a team of machinists, assigning tasks, monitoring productivity, and conducting daily huddles to align on production goals
  • Conduct first article inspections (FAI) and in-process quality checks, generating detailed reports in Honeywell's Quality Management System
  • Identify and implement machining process optimizations, such as tool life extensions or adaptive machining strategies, to enhance efficiency
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams including engineers, planners, and quality assurance to resolve production bottlenecks and non-conformances
  • Maintain accurate production records, update ERP systems (e.g., SAP), and ensure compliance with all safety, environmental, and FAA regulations
  • Perform routine equipment maintenance and troubleshoot issues to minimize downtime and support 24/7 operations
