Mechanical Design Engineer II

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and develop mechanical components and assemblies using CAD software, ensuring compliance with industry standards such as ASME and ISO.
  • Perform finite element analysis (FEA), tolerance stack-up studies, and kinematic simulations to optimize designs for performance, reliability, and manufacturability.
  • Lead design reviews, prototype development, and testing phases, iterating based on test data and customer feedback.
  • Collaborate with manufacturing, quality, and supply chain teams to transition designs from concept to production, resolving design-for-manufacturing issues.
  • Conduct failure mode and effects analysis (FMEA) and risk assessments to enhance product durability and safety.
  • Support root cause analysis for field issues and implement corrective actions to improve product lifecycle performance.
  • Mentor junior engineers and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives within the engineering department.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related field from an accredited institution (experience)
  • 5+ years of experience in mechanical design engineering, preferably in aerospace, automotive, or industrial sectors (experience)
  • Proficiency in 3D CAD modeling software such as Creo, SolidWorks, or NX (experience)
  • Hands-on experience with FEA tools like ANSYS or Abaqus for structural and thermal analysis (experience)
  • Strong understanding of GD&T, material selection, and manufacturing processes (experience)
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment (experience)

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline (experience)
  • Professional certifications such as Six Sigma Green Belt or ASQ Certified Quality Engineer (experience)
  • Experience with aerospace standards (e.g., DO-160, MIL-STD) or product lifecycle management (PLM) tools like Teamcenter (experience)

Responsibilities

  • Design and develop complex mechanical systems and components using advanced CAD tools, ensuring optimal performance and cost efficiency
  • Conduct detailed simulations including FEA, CFD, and dynamic analysis to validate designs against specifications
  • Lead design verification testing, including prototyping, fixture design, and data acquisition for validation
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams including electrical, software, and manufacturing engineers to integrate subsystems
  • Prepare technical documentation such as drawings, BOMs, and engineering change orders (ECOs)
  • Perform tolerance analysis and DFMEA to mitigate risks and ensure design robustness
  • Drive continuous improvement through lean methodologies and innovation in design practices
