Mechanical Design Engineer II

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, model, and simulate complex mechanical components and assemblies using CAD software, ensuring compliance with industry standards and customer specifications.
  • Perform tolerance stack-up analysis, finite element analysis (FEA), and thermal simulations to validate designs for performance, reliability, and manufacturability.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams including systems engineers, manufacturing, and quality assurance to integrate designs into production-ready solutions.
  • Lead design reviews, prototype development, and testing phases, iterating based on test data and feedback to achieve optimal outcomes.
  • Develop and maintain technical documentation, including 2D drawings, BOMs, and design reports, adhering to ASME Y14.5 GD&T standards.
  • Support root cause analysis for design-related issues using tools like 8D and PFMEA, driving continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Mentor junior engineers and contribute to knowledge-sharing within the team.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field from a recognized university (experience)
  • 5+ years of experience in mechanical design engineering, preferably in aerospace, automotive, or industrial sectors (experience)
  • Proficiency in 3D CAD software such as Creo, SolidWorks, or NX (experience)
  • Hands-on experience with FEA tools like ANSYS or Abaqus for structural and thermal analysis (experience)
  • Strong knowledge of GD&T (ASME Y14.5) and mechanical drafting standards (experience)
  • Experience with design for manufacturability (DFM) and assembly (DFA) principles (experience)

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering or specialization in CAD/CAM (experience)
  • ASME GD&T certification or Six Sigma Green Belt (experience)
  • Experience with additive manufacturing or composite materials design (experience)

Responsibilities

  • Design and develop mechanical components and subsystems for aerospace and industrial applications using advanced CAD tools
  • Conduct detailed simulations including stress, vibration, and thermal analysis to ensure design robustness
  • Lead design verification through prototyping, testing, and validation against performance requirements
  • Collaborate with supply chain and manufacturing teams to optimize designs for cost, weight, and production feasibility
  • Perform failure mode analysis and implement corrective actions to enhance product reliability
  • Prepare comprehensive technical documentation and present designs during gate reviews
  • Mentor junior team members and contribute to process improvements in the engineering workflow
