Mechanical Design Engineer I

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and develop mechanical components and assemblies using CAD software, ensuring compliance with industry standards such as ASME Y14.5 and ISO tolerances.
  • Perform finite element analysis (FEA) and computational fluid dynamics (CFD) simulations to validate designs for stress, thermal, and vibration performance.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including electrical engineers, manufacturing specialists, and quality assurance, to integrate mechanical designs into full product systems.
  • Conduct prototype testing, root cause analysis, and design iterations based on test data to optimize product reliability and manufacturability.
  • Prepare detailed engineering drawings, bills of materials (BOMs), and technical documentation for production handover.
  • Support design reviews, risk assessments (FMEA), and continuous improvement initiatives using Lean Six Sigma methodologies.
  • Stay abreast of emerging technologies in additive manufacturing, materials science, and automation to propose innovative design solutions.

  • Proficiency in 3D CAD software such as SolidWorks, Creo, or NX (experience)
  • Hands-on experience with FEA tools like ANSYS or Abaqus (experience)
  • Strong understanding of GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing) per ASME Y14.5 (experience)
  • Ability to obtain security clearance if required for specific projects (experience)

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline (experience)
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license or ASQ Certified Quality Engineer (experience)
  • Experience with additive manufacturing (3D printing) or composite materials (experience)

Responsibilities

  • Develop detailed 3D models and assemblies for mechanical systems using advanced CAD tools
  • Execute structural, thermal, and dynamic simulations to ensure design robustness
  • Lead design verification testing, including fixture design and data analysis
  • Collaborate with supply chain and manufacturing teams to optimize designs for producibility and cost
  • Document design rationale, perform tolerance stack-up analysis, and generate production-ready drawings
  • Participate in design reviews and implement feedback to mitigate risks
  • Mentor junior engineers and contribute to knowledge-sharing initiatives
