Mechanical Design Engineer II

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and develop mechanical systems and components using CAD software, ensuring compliance with customer specifications, regulatory requirements, and Honeywell's quality standards.
  • Perform detailed engineering analysis, including stress, thermal, and vibration simulations, to validate designs and optimize performance.
  • Lead design reviews, prototype development, and testing phases, iterating based on test data and feedback to achieve robust, reliable outcomes.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including electrical engineers, manufacturing, and supply chain, to integrate mechanical designs into full product assemblies.
  • Support production ramp-up by creating detailed manufacturing documentation, such as drawings, BOMs, and assembly instructions.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives, applying DFMEA, DFA, and Six Sigma methodologies to enhance design efficiency and reduce costs.
  • Mentor junior engineers and contribute to knowledge-sharing within the team.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related field from an accredited university (experience)
  • 5+ years of experience in mechanical design engineering, preferably in aerospace, automotive, or industrial manufacturing (experience)
  • Proficiency in 3D CAD software such as Creo, SolidWorks, or NX (experience)
  • Hands-on experience with finite element analysis (FEA) tools like ANSYS or similar (experience)
  • Strong understanding of GD&T, ASME Y14.5 standards, and mechanical tolerancing (experience)
  • Experience with product lifecycle management (PLM) systems (experience)

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline (experience)
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license or ASQ Certified Six Sigma Green Belt (experience)
  • Experience with additive manufacturing or advanced composites (experience)

Responsibilities

  • Design innovative mechanical systems and components using advanced CAD tools to meet stringent customer and regulatory requirements
  • Conduct engineering analyses including FEA, CFD, and tolerance stack-ups to ensure design integrity under operational conditions
  • Prototype, test, and validate designs through iterative testing cycles, analyzing failure modes and implementing corrective actions
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to integrate mechanical designs with electrical, software, and manufacturing elements
  • Develop comprehensive technical documentation, including 2D drawings, BOMs, and design rationale reports
  • Lead design reviews and risk assessments using tools like DFMEA to mitigate potential issues early
  • Support manufacturing transition by resolving production issues and optimizing designs for cost and scalability
