Mechanical Engineer - Biogas

Location: International (Hybrid Workplace)

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and engineer mechanical systems for biogas plants, including digesters, gas upgrading units, and compression equipment, ensuring compliance with international standards like ASME and ISO.
  • Conduct feasibility studies, CFD simulations, and stress analyses to optimize biogas system performance and efficiency.
  • Lead prototyping, testing, and validation of biogas technologies in pilot and full-scale projects, iterating based on performance data.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including process engineers, electrical teams, and external partners, to integrate biogas solutions into broader energy ecosystems.
  • Develop technical documentation, including CAD models, BOMs, and installation manuals, while supporting regulatory approvals and safety certifications.
  • Monitor and troubleshoot biogas plant operations, implementing predictive maintenance strategies using IoT and data analytics.
  • Stay abreast of industry advancements in anaerobic digestion, gas purification, and renewable energy integration to innovate Honeywell's offerings.

  • 5+ years of professional experience in mechanical design for renewable energy systems, with specific focus on biogas or anaerobic digestion technologies (experience)
  • Proven track record in designing pressure vessels, piping systems, and rotating equipment compliant with ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code (experience)
  • Hands-on experience with CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, AutoCAD) and simulation tools (e.g., ANSYS, COMSOL) for fluid dynamics and thermal analysis (experience)
  • Familiarity with international biogas standards and regulations (e.g., EU RED II, EPA guidelines) (experience)

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Mechanical or Energy Engineering (experience)
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license or equivalent international certification (e.g., Chartered Engineer) (experience)
  • Experience with biogas plant commissioning and operations in diverse international markets (experience)

Responsibilities

  • Design and optimize mechanical components for biogas production systems, including digesters, mixers, and gas handling equipment
  • Perform detailed engineering analyses, such as FEA and CFD, to ensure system reliability under varying operational conditions
  • Lead cross-functional project teams in the development and deployment of biogas solutions from concept to commercialization
  • Collaborate with suppliers and contractors to source materials and oversee fabrication of custom biogas equipment
  • Conduct risk assessments and implement safety protocols for high-pressure gas systems in biogas facilities
  • Analyze operational data from biogas plants to recommend efficiency improvements and retrofits
  • Prepare technical reports, patents, and presentations for internal stakeholders and industry conferences
