Principal Hardware Engineer

Overview

Join Honeywell Aerospace and be a key contributor to our cutting-edge Weather Radar product line. As a Principal Hardware Engineer, you will leverage your advanced expertise in hardware engineering to design, test, and validate innovative solutions that meet the evolving needs of our aviation customers. Working under limited supervision alongside some of the world's most talented engineers, you will play a pivotal role in developing Honeywell's next-generation Weather Radar products. Your focus will be on ensuring high quality, optimizing roll-throughput yield, supporting aftermarket services, and providing robust factory support from prototype through to market readiness. This hybrid role in the United States offers the flexibility to collaborate in a dynamic environment while advancing aerospace technology.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the design and development of hardware architectures for weather radar systems, including schematic capture, PCB layout, and component selection.
  • Conduct rigorous testing and validation of prototypes to ensure compliance with aerospace standards such as DO-160 and MIL-STD.
  • Optimize manufacturing processes to improve roll-throughput yield and reduce defects in production environments.
  • Provide technical support for aftermarket services, including failure analysis, repairs, and upgrades for fielded radar systems.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including software engineers, systems engineers, and manufacturing, to integrate hardware solutions seamlessly.
  • Mentor junior engineers and drive continuous improvement in hardware engineering processes and tools.
  • Ensure product reliability through environmental testing, thermal analysis, and signal integrity verification.

  • Proven track record in designing and validating complex hardware systems from prototype to production (experience)
  • Deep knowledge of radar systems, RF/microwave engineering, and avionics hardware (experience)
  • Experience with quality assurance processes, including yield optimization and factory support (experience)
  • U.S. Person status due to ITAR and EAR export control requirements (experience)

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Electrical Engineering or related field (experience)
  • Experience with weather radar or similar sensor technologies (experience)
  • Professional certifications such as Six Sigma Black Belt or IPC CID+ (experience)

Responsibilities

  • Design and develop hardware architectures for next-generation weather radar systems, including multi-layer PCBs and mixed-signal circuits
  • Perform schematic design, PCB layout, and component selection using tools like Altium Designer or Cadence Allegro
  • Lead prototype testing, validation, and debugging to meet aerospace certification standards
  • Analyze and improve roll-throughput yield through process optimization and defect reduction initiatives
  • Provide aftermarket support, including root cause analysis for field returns and design enhancements
  • Collaborate with manufacturing teams to ensure seamless transition from design to high-volume production
  • Mentor and guide junior engineers while staying current with emerging hardware technologies
