Principal Hardware Engineer

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the end-to-end hardware design lifecycle, from initial concept and requirements definition to prototype development, testing, and high-volume production.
  • Architect complex hardware systems, including PCBs, FPGAs, microcontrollers, power supplies, and RF/mixed-signal circuits, optimizing for performance, cost, and manufacturability.
  • Collaborate with software, firmware, mechanical, and systems engineering teams to integrate hardware components into full product solutions.
  • Develop and execute comprehensive validation plans, including simulation, prototyping, environmental testing, and compliance with standards like IPC, MIL-STD, and FCC/CE.
  • Mentor junior engineers, conduct design reviews, and drive continuous improvement in design processes and tools.
  • Manage supplier interactions, component selection, and risk mitigation to ensure supply chain resilience and on-time delivery.
  • Stay abreast of emerging technologies in hardware design, such as advanced semiconductors, IoT integration, and AI-accelerated systems.

  • Expertise in schematic capture, PCB layout, and signal integrity analysis (experience)
  • Experience with design for manufacturability (DFM), testability (DFT), and reliability (DFR) (experience)
  • U.S. Person status due to ITAR/EAR compliance requirements (experience)

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree or PhD in Electrical Engineering or related field (experience)
  • Professional certifications such as Cisco CCNA, IPC Certified Interconnect Designer (CID), or Six Sigma Green Belt (experience)
  • Experience with high-reliability hardware for aerospace or defense applications (experience)

Responsibilities

  • Define hardware architecture and specifications based on system-level requirements and collaborate with stakeholders to align on technical feasibility
  • Design and simulate analog/digital/mixed-signal circuits using tools like Altium Designer, Cadence Allegro, or Mentor Graphics
  • Prototype and validate hardware through lab testing, thermal analysis, EMI/EMC compliance, and accelerated life testing
  • Lead cross-functional design reviews, failure mode analysis (FMEA), and root cause investigations to resolve complex issues
  • Optimize designs for cost reduction, power efficiency, and scalability while ensuring adherence to industry standards
  • Mentor and guide junior engineers on best practices in hardware development and tooling
  • Interface with manufacturing partners and suppliers to transition designs to production and resolve yield or quality issues
