Job Description

Principal Systems Engineer, Weather Radar

Overview

Join Honeywell Aerospace's innovative Weather Radar team in designing, developing, and integrating highly complex systems that ensure safe and reliable aviation. As a Principal Systems Engineer, you will own the full systems lifecycle—from business development and requirements definition through integration, verification, validation, production, and end-of-life support. This customer-facing role involves representing Honeywell to major OEMs (Original Equipment Manufacturers), coordinating technical solutions, and driving customer satisfaction. Based in the United States with a hybrid workplace model, you'll collaborate across multidisciplinary teams to deliver cutting-edge weather radar solutions that meet evolving aviation needs and propel business growth.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the architecture, design, and integration of weather radar systems, ensuring compliance with FAA, EASA, and DO-178C/DO-254 standards.
  • Define and manage system requirements using tools like DOORS or Polarion, translating customer needs into verifiable specifications.
  • Conduct system-level modeling, simulation, and analysis using MATLAB/Simulink to predict performance in real-world weather scenarios.
  • Coordinate with OEMs, suppliers, and internal stakeholders to resolve integration issues and achieve program milestones.
  • Drive risk management, trade studies, and failure modes analysis (FMEA) to optimize system reliability and safety.
  • Mentor junior engineers and contribute to proposal development for new weather radar programs.

What Makes This Role Exciting

Be at the forefront of aerospace innovation, impacting global aviation safety with advanced weather radar technologies. Enjoy ownership of high-visibility projects, direct engagement with industry leaders like Boeing and Airbus, and the chance to influence Honeywell's roadmap in next-gen avionics. With hybrid flexibility, comprehensive benefits, and a collaborative culture, this role offers professional growth, technical challenges, and the satisfaction of delivering mission-critical solutions that save lives and enhance flight efficiency.
