Key Responsibilities

  • Architect, design, and implement embedded firmware for Fire Alarm control panels using real-time operating systems (RTOS) and low-level drivers.
  • Develop and optimize algorithms for fire detection, alarm signaling, and system diagnostics to meet UL, EN54, and other global standards.
  • Lead firmware integration with hardware peripherals, sensors, and communication protocols such as CAN, RS485, and Modbus.
  • Conduct rigorous unit testing, integration testing, and debugging using tools like oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, and JTAG debuggers.
  • Collaborate with hardware engineers, software teams, and product managers to define requirements and deliver high-quality, scalable solutions.
  • Mentor junior engineers and contribute to code reviews, documentation, and process improvements for firmware development lifecycle.
  • Ensure firmware security, reliability, and performance under extreme conditions through simulation and field testing.

Honeywell is looking for an experienced embedded firmware design engineer with strong Fire system development knowledge to join us for development of Fire Alarm control panel firmware.

Salary

  • Proven expertise in Fire Alarm systems or similar life-safety applications (experience)
  • Hands-on experience with microcontroller platforms (e.g., ARM Cortex-M, STM32, PIC) (experience)
  • Strong knowledge of real-time embedded systems, RTOS (e.g., FreeRTOS, Zephyr), and bare-metal programming (experience)
  • Familiarity with international fire safety standards (UL 864, EN54, NFPA 72) (experience)

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Embedded Systems or related field (experience)
  • Certifications such as Certified Embedded Systems Engineer (CESE) or NICET in Fire Alarm Systems (experience)
  • Experience with wireless protocols (e.g., LoRaWAN, Zigbee) for fire system networking (experience)

Responsibilities

  • Design and develop robust embedded firmware for Fire Alarm control panels, focusing on sensor fusion and event processing
  • Lead the implementation of communication interfaces and protocols for panel-to-device and panel-to-cloud integration
  • Perform comprehensive testing, including fault injection, environmental stress, and certification validation
  • Optimize firmware for low power consumption, high reliability, and deterministic real-time performance
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to troubleshoot hardware-firmware issues and resolve field anomalies
  • Document designs, APIs, and test procedures; contribute to agile sprints and release cycles
  • Drive continuous improvement in development tools, CI/CD pipelines, and firmware security practices
