Key Responsibilities

  • Architect end-to-end PLC controller systems, defining hardware, software, and firmware architectures to meet stringent industrial standards like IEC 61131-3.
  • Lead the design of scalable, real-time control systems integrating safety-critical features (SIL 3/4) and edge computing capabilities.
  • Develop and validate system models using tools like SysML or MATLAB/Simulink for performance optimization and fault tolerance.
  • Collaborate with firmware, software, and hardware engineers to prototype and iterate on PLC designs, ensuring seamless integration with IIoT protocols (OPC UA, Modbus, EtherCAT).
  • Conduct risk assessments, FMEA analyses, and compliance testing for certifications including UL, CE, and ATEX.
  • Mentor junior engineers and drive knowledge sharing on embedded systems and control theory best practices.
  • Engage with customers and stakeholders to translate requirements into robust architectural solutions.

  • 7+ years of experience in system architecture for embedded or industrial control systems (experience)
  • Proven track record in PLC controller design and development for industrial automation (experience)
  • Deep knowledge of real-time operating systems (RTOS) and safety-critical systems (IEC 61508) (experience)
  • Experience with hardware-software co-design and system integration in complex environments (experience)
  • Ability to travel internationally as needed for projects and customer engagements (experience)

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree or PhD in a relevant engineering discipline (experience)
  • Certifications such as Certified System Architect (SysML), Functional Safety Engineer (TÜV), or PLC programming (Siemens S7, Rockwell) (experience)
  • Experience with AI/ML integration in control systems or cybersecurity for OT environments (experience)

Responsibilities

  • Define and document high-level system architectures for next-generation PLC controllers, including functional block diagrams and interface specifications
  • Lead multidisciplinary teams in the development, simulation, and validation of PLC prototypes using HIL (Hardware-in-the-Loop) testing
  • Optimize system performance for low-latency, high-reliability operations in harsh industrial conditions
  • Ensure compliance with global standards and perform thorough system-level testing and debugging
  • Innovate on scalable architectures supporting cloud-edge connectivity and predictive maintenance features
  • Provide technical leadership in design reviews, risk mitigation, and continuous improvement initiatives
  • Collaborate with product management and sales to align architectures with market needs and customer feedback
