Senior Vacuum Engineering Technician

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Vacuum Engineering Technician to join our advanced manufacturing team. In this critical role, you will support the design, testing, and optimization of vacuum systems integral to Honeywell's aerospace, defense, and industrial products. Reporting to the Vacuum Engineering Manager, you will work on-site at our state-of-the-art facility, ensuring our vacuum technologies meet rigorous performance standards for mission-critical applications.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform advanced assembly, testing, and troubleshooting of high-vacuum systems, including ultra-high vacuum (UHV) chambers, pumps, and gauges.
  • Conduct leak detection, pressure testing, and performance validation using tools like helium mass spectrometers and residual gas analyzers.
  • Optimize vacuum processes for contamination control, bake-out procedures, and surface preparation in cleanroom environments.
  • Collaborate with engineers to develop and qualify new vacuum components for aerospace propulsion systems and semiconductor manufacturing equipment.
  • Maintain detailed documentation, including test reports, calibration records, and failure analysis, in compliance with ISO 9001 and AS9100 standards.
  • Mentor junior technicians and lead hands-on training sessions on vacuum best practices and safety protocols.
  • Support root cause analysis and implement corrective actions to enhance system reliability and yield.

Required Qualifications

  • Associate's degree or higher in Mechanical Engineering Technology, Vacuum Technology, or related field (experience)
  • 5+ years of hands-on experience in vacuum system assembly, testing, and maintenance (experience)
  • Proven expertise in high and ultra-high vacuum technologies, including turbomolecular pumps and cryopumps (experience)
  • Experience in cleanroom operations and contamination control protocols (experience)
  • Familiarity with vacuum diagnostic tools such as RGA, leak detectors, and ion gauges (experience)
  • Strong understanding of vacuum physics, materials compatibility, and safety standards (experience)

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or Physics (experience)
  • AVS or equivalent vacuum technology certification (experience)
  • Experience in aerospace or semiconductor vacuum applications (experience)

Responsibilities

  • Assemble and integrate complex vacuum systems, ensuring alignment with design specifications and tolerances
  • Execute precise leak testing and vacuum performance evaluations using industry-standard equipment
  • Develop and implement maintenance schedules for vacuum pumps, valves, and sensors to minimize downtime
  • Analyze test data to identify anomalies, perform root cause investigations, and recommend process improvements
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with design engineers, quality assurance, and production teams to qualify new vacuum hardware
  • Train and mentor technicians on vacuum system operations, safety procedures, and best practices
  • Document all activities in compliance with Honeywell's quality management system and regulatory requirements
