Overview

Join Honeywell's innovative team in Phoenix, AZ, as a Sr Advanced Electrical Engineer - EMC Design. In this pivotal role, you will lead the design and development of complex electrical systems with a focus on Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC), providing technical expertise to ensure project success and compliance with industry standards. Reporting directly to the Engineering Manager, you will contribute to cutting-edge solutions in aerospace, defense, and industrial applications. This position is based at our Phoenix, AZ facility and offers a hybrid work arrangement after an initial 90-day onsite onboarding period. Your work will directly impact Honeywell's ability to deliver reliable, high-performance products that shape the future of technology.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the design, analysis, and verification of electrical systems to meet stringent EMC/EMI requirements, including radiated and conducted emissions testing.
  • Develop and implement EMC mitigation strategies, such as shielding, filtering, and grounding techniques, for complex multi-board systems.
  • Conduct EMC simulations using tools like ANSYS HFSS or CST Studio Suite and correlate results with hardware testing.
  • Mentor junior engineers and collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate EMC considerations into product development lifecycles.
  • Perform root cause analysis on EMC failures and drive corrective actions to ensure first-pass compliance with standards like MIL-STD-461, DO-160, and FCC Part 15.
  • Support system-level integration, prototyping, and validation in lab environments, including anechoic chamber testing.

  • 8+ years of experience in electrical engineering with a focus on EMC/EMI design and compliance (experience)
  • Proven track record of leading EMC design for complex systems in aerospace, defense, or industrial sectors (experience)
  • Hands-on experience with EMC testing equipment and standards (e.g., MIL-STD-461, DO-160, CISPR) (experience)
  • Proficiency in EMC simulation tools such as ANSYS HFSS, CST Microwave Studio, or similar (experience)
  • Strong understanding of PCB layout for EMC, including high-speed signal integrity (experience)

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Electrical Engineering or related field (experience)
  • EMC certification (e.g., iNARTE Certified EMC Engineer) (experience)
  • Experience with aerospace certification processes and safety-critical systems (experience)

Responsibilities

  • Lead end-to-end EMC design for electrical systems, from concept through certification and production
  • Perform electromagnetic simulations, risk assessments, and design trade studies to optimize system performance
  • Execute and oversee EMC pre-compliance and formal testing in accredited labs
  • Collaborate with hardware, firmware, and systems teams to resolve EMC-related issues
  • Develop EMC design guidelines, best practices, and training materials for the engineering team
  • Analyze field returns and customer feedback to improve future designs
  • Stay current with evolving EMC standards and emerging technologies
