Leveraging your expertise as a Mechanical Engineer, you will deliver innovative, high-performance mechanical designs that meet rigorous performance, reliability, and environmental standards. Reporting directly to the Mechanical Engineering Manager, you will work out of our state-of-the-art facility in Clearwater, FL, on a hybrid schedule (minimum 3 days on-site weekly) to collaborate with cross-functional teams and drive mission-critical projects.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and develop advanced mechanical hardware for navigation systems, inertial sensors, and guidance components using CAD tools like SolidWorks or Creo.
  • Perform detailed finite element analysis (FEA), tolerance stack-ups, and thermal/structural simulations to ensure design robustness under extreme conditions.
  • Lead prototype fabrication, testing, and validation efforts, including environmental testing (vibration, shock, thermal cycling) per DO-160 and MIL-STD standards.
  • Collaborate with electrical, systems, and manufacturing engineers to integrate mechanical designs into full assemblies and resolve design-trade issues.
  • Conduct design reviews, failure mode analysis (FMEA), and root cause investigations to sustain and improve product reliability.
  • Mentor junior engineers and contribute to proposal development for new business opportunities in avionics and sensor technologies.
  • Ensure compliance with industry regulations, including AS9100 quality standards and export control requirements.

  • Proficiency in 3D CAD modeling (e.g., SolidWorks, Creo) and mechanical simulation tools (e.g., ANSYS, FEA) (experience)
  • Hands-on experience with prototyping, testing, and qualification of mechanical assemblies under environmental stresses (experience)
  • Strong understanding of GD&T, materials selection, and manufacturing processes for precision components (experience)
  • U.S. citizenship or permanent residency required due to ITAR/export control regulations (experience)

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline (experience)
  • Experience with avionics or sensor hardware design (e.g., IMUs, gyros, accelerometers) (experience)
  • ASQ Certified Quality Engineer (CQE) or Six Sigma Green/Black Belt certification (experience)

Responsibilities

  • Design and develop mechanical hardware for navigation and sensor systems using advanced CAD and simulation tools
  • Lead mechanical design reviews, trade studies, and risk assessments to optimize performance and cost
  • Execute prototype builds, assembly, and rigorous testing protocols including shock, vibration, and thermal qualification
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with systems, electrical, and manufacturing teams to ensure seamless integration
  • Perform failure analysis, implement corrective actions, and sustain legacy products through lifecycle support
  • Mentor junior staff and contribute to technical proposals for new program wins
