Sr Advanced Systems Engineer - Propulsion Product Development Team

Overview

In this hybrid role, you will drive the advancement of current and future Propulsion and Auxiliary Power Unit (APU) product offerings, from early-phase concepts and R&D through full development. Reporting directly to our Senior Engineering Manager, you'll collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver cutting-edge solutions that power the next generation of aircraft. This position offers a hybrid work schedule, blending on-site collaboration in our state-of-the-art Phoenix facility with flexible remote options.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead systems engineering efforts for propulsion systems, including requirements definition, architecture design, and integration from concept to certification.
  • Develop and validate advanced models for propulsion performance, thermal management, and APU operations using tools like MATLAB/Simulink and NPSS.
  • Conduct trade studies, risk assessments, and failure modes analysis to optimize product designs for reliability, efficiency, and manufacturability.
  • Collaborate with propulsion design, test, and certification teams to ensure compliance with FAA, EASA, and industry standards such as ARP4754A and DO-178C.
  • Mentor junior engineers and contribute to proposal development for new R&D initiatives in sustainable aviation technologies.
  • Interface with customers and suppliers to align system requirements with market needs and technological advancements.

  • Proven track record in product development from concept through certification in an aerospace environment (experience)
  • Experience with systems modeling, simulation, and requirements management tools (e.g., DOORS, Cameo) (experience)
  • Familiarity with aerospace standards including ARP4754, ARP4761, and RTCA DO-178/DO-254 (experience)
  • U.S. Person status due to ITAR/EAR compliance requirements (experience)

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Aerospace Engineering or related field (experience)
  • Experience with propulsion control systems or APU development (experience)
  • Professional certification such as INCOSE CSEP or PMP (experience)
  • Knowledge of sustainable aviation technologies like hybrid-electric propulsion (experience)

Responsibilities

  • Define and manage system requirements for propulsion and APU products using MBSE methodologies
  • Perform systems integration analysis, including interface definition and verification testing
  • Lead design reviews, trade studies, and risk mitigation for advanced propulsion concepts
  • Develop and validate system-level models for performance prediction and optimization
  • Coordinate with cross-functional teams including aerodynamics, structures, and software engineering
  • Support certification activities, including safety assessments and compliance documentation
  • Drive innovation in R&D projects focused on next-generation efficient and sustainable propulsion systems
