Sr Advanced Test Engineer

Location: United States (Hybrid)

Job Overview

As a Sr Advanced Test Engineer at Honeywell, you will play a pivotal role in developing and executing advanced testing strategies for cutting-edge aerospace and industrial systems. Reporting to the Test Engineering Manager, you will lead complex test programs, innovate testing methodologies, and ensure product reliability under extreme conditions. This hybrid role offers flexibility to collaborate with cross-functional teams while advancing Honeywell's mission to pioneer next-generation technologies.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and validate advanced test architectures for hardware, software, and integrated systems in aerospace and defense applications.
  • Lead root cause analysis and failure investigations using statistical methods, FMEA, and advanced diagnostic tools to enhance product robustness.
  • Develop automated test scripts and harnesses using Python, LabVIEW, or MATLAB to streamline validation processes and reduce cycle times.
  • Collaborate with design, quality, and manufacturing teams to define test requirements and ensure compliance with DO-160, MIL-STD-810, and AS9100 standards.
  • Mentor junior engineers and drive continuous improvement in test processes, including HALT/HASS and environmental stress screening.
  • Analyze test data using Six Sigma methodologies to provide actionable insights and support certification efforts for FAA/EASA approvals.
  • Manage test lab operations, equipment calibration, and risk assessments for high-stakes prototype and production testing.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related technical field (experience)
  • 5+ years of experience in test engineering, preferably in aerospace, defense, or high-reliability industries (experience)
  • Proven track record in designing and executing environmental, vibration, and electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) tests (experience)
  • Experience with test automation tools and data acquisition systems (e.g., NI DAQ, oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers) (experience)
  • Strong knowledge of industry standards such as DO-160, MIL-STD-810, RTCA/DO-254, and AS9100 (experience)
  • Demonstrated ability to lead cross-functional test programs and perform root cause analysis (experience)

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Engineering or related field (experience)
  • Certifications such as Certified Test Engineer (CTE), Six Sigma Green/Black Belt, or ASQ CQE (experience)
  • Experience with real-time embedded systems testing or model-based testing (e.g., Simulink, Stateflow) (experience)

Responsibilities

  • Architect comprehensive test plans and procedures for complex avionics, sensors, and propulsion systems
  • Execute and analyze qualification, acceptance, and reliability tests under simulated flight conditions
  • Develop custom test fixtures, scripts, and software for automated regression and performance testing
  • Lead failure mode analysis, corrective action implementation, and documentation for MRB processes
  • Interface with suppliers and customers to validate test results and support product certification
  • Optimize test throughput using Lean principles and digital twin simulations
  • Mentor team members and contribute to test engineering best practices and innovation initiatives
