We are seeking a Sr Application Sales Engineer - Turbomachinery Controls to join our dynamic team in a hybrid capacity based in Houston, TX or Des Moines, IA. In this pivotal role, you will drive the commercial operations process for turbomachinery control systems, collaborating with clients in the oil & gas, power generation, and industrial sectors to deliver cutting-edge solutions that optimize performance and reliability. This hybrid position offers flexibility to balance office collaboration with remote work, supporting Honeywell's commitment to employee well-being.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the technical sales process by conducting detailed application studies, sizing, and selecting control systems for compressors, turbines, and pumps.
  • Develop and present customized proposals, including performance simulations and ROI analyses, to secure multimillion-dollar contracts.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including engineering, product management, and regional sales, to ensure seamless project execution from bid to delivery.
  • Provide expert technical support during customer negotiations, demonstrations, and factory acceptance tests (FAT).
  • Analyze market trends and competitor offerings to recommend enhancements to Honeywell's turbomachinery control portfolio.
  • Maintain strong relationships with key clients and channel partners to drive repeat business and upsell opportunities.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives by documenting best practices and lessons learned from commercial operations.

The Sr. Application Engineer is responsible for the successful execution of the commercial Operations process in a given region. This will be a Hybrid position in Houston, TX or Des Moines, IA.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or a related technical field (experience)
  • 5+ years of experience in application engineering, technical sales, or systems integration within the turbomachinery or industrial controls industry (experience)
  • Proven track record of successfully closing complex technical sales deals exceeding $1M in value (experience)
  • Deep knowledge of turbomachinery systems including compressors, gas/steam turbines, and pumps (experience)
  • Familiarity with control systems such as DCS, PLC, or SCADA platforms used in oil & gas or power generation (experience)
  • Willingness to travel up to 50% domestically and occasionally internationally (experience)

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Engineering or Business Administration (experience)
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license or relevant industry certifications (e.g., ISA, TÜV) (experience)
  • Experience with Honeywell's control systems (Experion, Safety Manager) or equivalent competitor products (experience)

Responsibilities

  • Perform detailed application engineering studies to size and configure turbomachinery control solutions for customer-specific requirements
  • Create and deliver compelling technical proposals, including HAZOP analysis, performance curves, and lifecycle cost models
  • Lead customer-facing demonstrations, site surveys, and risk assessments to build confidence in Honeywell solutions
  • Coordinate with internal stakeholders to align on pricing, delivery schedules, and contract terms during the bid process
  • Support post-sale handovers by providing training and documentation to ensure smooth commissioning and startup
  • Monitor commercial pipeline, forecast sales opportunities, and report metrics to regional leadership
  • Identify and pursue new business opportunities through industry networking and trade shows
