Key Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and integrate embedded software for real-time avionics systems, including flight management, navigation, and display interfaces.
  • Lead the implementation of DO-178C compliant software processes, ensuring adherence to safety-critical standards from design through verification.
  • Optimize low-level drivers, middleware, and application layers for resource-constrained embedded environments.
  • Perform unit testing, integration testing, and hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) validation to ensure robust system performance.
  • Collaborate with hardware engineers, systems architects, and certification teams to resolve complex technical challenges.
  • Mentor junior engineers and drive continuous improvement in software development practices and tools.
  • Contribute to requirements analysis, architecture design, and risk assessments for next-gen avionics platforms.

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field (experience)
  • 5+ years of experience in embedded software development for safety-critical systems, preferably in aerospace or avionics (experience)
  • Proven experience with DO-178C DAL A/B processes and certification artifacts (experience)
  • Hands-on expertise in real-time operating systems (RTOS) such as VxWorks or Green Hills INTEGRITY (experience)
  • Strong proficiency in C/C++ for embedded systems and low-level programming (experience)
  • Experience with embedded hardware integration, debugging tools (JTAG, oscilloscopes), and version control systems like Git (experience)

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in a relevant engineering discipline (experience)
  • DO-178C training certification or ARP4754A/4761 experience (experience)
  • Prior work on Integrated Modular Avionics (IMA) or ARINC 653 compliant systems (experience)
  • Familiarity with avionics communication protocols (ARINC 429, 664/AFDX, MIL-STD-1553) (experience)

Responsibilities

  • Architect and implement embedded software modules for next-generation flight deck systems, focusing on real-time performance and reliability
  • Develop and maintain safety-critical code adhering to DO-178C standards, including traceability matrices and verification procedures
  • Integrate software with avionics hardware platforms, performing bring-up, debugging, and optimization for power and memory constraints
  • Lead code reviews, static analysis, and automated testing using tools like VectorCAST or LDRA
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define software requirements and support FAA/EASA certification activities
  • Investigate and resolve field issues, implementing robust fixes and preventive measures
