Overview

Join Honeywell's Aerospace Technologies division as a Sr Embedded Software Engineer, where you'll play a pivotal role in developing Next-Generation Airborne Traffic Alert & Collision Avoidance (TCAS) and Surveillance Avionics. Reporting directly to our Director of Engineering, you'll work from our state-of-the-art facilities in Phoenix, AZ or Redmond, WA on a hybrid schedule, blending collaboration with flexibility. Key Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and integrate embedded software for TCAS systems using C/C++ on real-time operating systems like VxWorks or Green Hills INTEGRITY.
  • Implement DO-178C compliant software processes, including requirements analysis, unit testing, and verification for DAL A safety levels.
  • Lead code reviews, debugging, and optimization of algorithms for radar signal processing and threat detection in avionics environments.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including hardware engineers, systems architects, and certification specialists, to ensure seamless integration and FAA/EASA compliance.
  • Develop simulation tools and perform hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) testing to validate system performance under diverse flight scenarios.
  • Mentor junior engineers and drive continuous improvement in agile development practices tailored to aerospace standards.

  • Proven experience with DO-178C processes and certification artifacts for airborne software (experience)
  • Strong proficiency in C/C++ programming for resource-constrained embedded environments (experience)
  • Experience with real-time operating systems (RTOS) such as VxWorks, Green Hills, or FreeRTOS (experience)
  • Familiarity with avionics communication protocols like ARINC 429, 664 (A664), or MIL-STD-1553 (experience)

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in a relevant engineering discipline (experience)
  • DO-178C training or certification (e.g., from LDRA or similar tools) (experience)
  • Experience with TCAS, ADS-B, or radar surveillance systems (experience)

Responsibilities

  • Architect and implement embedded C/C++ software modules for TCAS threat detection and resolution advisories
  • Conduct static and dynamic analysis using tools like VectorCAST, LDRA, or Polyspace to meet DAL A objectives
  • Develop and maintain traceability matrices from requirements to code and test cases
  • Perform integration testing on target hardware, including power-on self-tests and fault insertion scenarios
  • Collaborate with certification authorities to resolve software Means of Compliance (MOC) issues
  • Optimize low-level drivers for ARM or PowerPC processors in avionics single-board computers
  • Document software design per RTCA/DO-178C and support peer reviews and audits
