Senior Engineering Technician

Location: Phoenix, AZ | Workplace: Hybrid (primarily on-site)

Key Responsibilities

  • Assemble, test, and troubleshoot complex prototypes of APUs, power systems, and propulsion engines using precision tools and diagnostic equipment.
  • Conduct performance evaluations, vibration analysis, and thermal testing to ensure compliance with FAA and industry certification standards.
  • Support engineering teams in design validation, root cause analysis, and iterative improvements for fan and shaft power components.
  • Maintain detailed test records, generate technical reports, and present findings to cross-functional stakeholders.
  • Operate and calibrate advanced lab equipment, including dynamometers, data acquisition systems, and environmental chambers.

Summary

As a Sr Eng Tech here at Honeywell, you will play a significant role among a group of engineers and technicians in the development and certification of a variety of auxiliary power units (APUs), power systems and propulsion engines (fan and shaft power). You will report directly to our Director of Engineering, and you’ll work out of our Phoenix, AZ location on an on-site work schedule.

Required Qualifications

  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering Technology, Aerospace Engineering, or a related technical field (experience)
  • 5+ years of hands-on experience in aerospace testing, assembly, or maintenance of power systems, APUs, or propulsion engines (experience)
  • Proven expertise in diagnostic testing, vibration analysis, and performance evaluation of mechanical systems (experience)
  • Familiarity with FAA certification processes and aerospace industry standards (e.g., AS9100, DO-160) (experience)
  • Experience with precision measurement tools, data acquisition systems, and lab equipment calibration (experience)
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, schematics, and technical specifications (experience)

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering (experience)
  • ASQ Certified Technician or similar aerospace certifications (e.g., FAA Airframe & Powerplant) (experience)
  • Experience with Honeywell or OEM propulsion systems and CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks) (experience)

Responsibilities

  • Build and integrate prototypes of auxiliary power units (APUs) and propulsion engines for lab and field testing
  • Perform rigorous testing protocols including thermal cycling, vibration, and endurance tests on fan and shaft power components
  • Diagnose and resolve technical issues in power systems using root cause analysis methodologies like 8D or Fishbone
  • Document test results, prepare certification dossiers, and support audits for regulatory compliance
  • Collaborate with design engineers to validate prototypes and recommend design enhancements for reliability and efficiency
  • Maintain and calibrate test equipment, ensuring adherence to safety and quality standards
  • Mentor junior technicians and contribute to process improvements in the engineering lab
