Sr Field Service Technician – Combustion Systems

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform on-site diagnostics, troubleshooting, and repairs of complex combustion systems, including burners, igniters, and control panels, using advanced diagnostic tools and Honeywell proprietary software.
  • Commission new installations, conduct performance testing, and optimize system efficiency to meet client specifications and regulatory standards.
  • Provide expert technical support and training to clients and junior technicians, ensuring seamless system integration and operation.
  • Conduct preventive maintenance, root cause analysis, and implement corrective actions to minimize downtime and enhance system reliability.
  • Document service activities, generate detailed reports, and collaborate with engineering teams to recommend system improvements and upgrades.
  • Ensure compliance with safety protocols, OSHA regulations, and environmental standards during all field activities.
  • Manage travel logistics, inventory of service parts, and customer relationships to foster long-term partnerships.

Required Qualifications

  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical field (experience)
  • 5+ years of hands-on experience in field service, maintenance, or commissioning of industrial combustion systems, burners, or thermal equipment (experience)
  • Proven track record of diagnosing and repairing complex electromechanical systems in industrial environments (experience)
  • Ability to travel up to 75% nationwide, including overnight stays (experience)
  • Valid driver's license and willingness to obtain necessary security clearances (experience)
  • Strong safety focus with knowledge of OSHA, NFPA, and EPA regulations (experience)

Preferred Qualifications

  • Combustion engineering certifications (e.g., NFI, CGA, or ASME) (experience)
  • Experience with Honeywell or similar OEM combustion control systems (experience)
  • Prior leadership experience mentoring junior technicians (experience)

Responsibilities

  • Diagnose and resolve issues in combustion systems using oscilloscopes, multimeters, PLC programming, and emissions analyzers
  • Commission and startup new burner management systems (BMS) and flame safeguard controls for industrial boilers and furnaces
  • Perform tuning and optimization of fuel-air ratios to achieve peak efficiency and emissions compliance
  • Conduct root cause failure analysis and implement preventive measures to reduce unplanned outages
  • Collaborate with sales, engineering, and customer teams to develop customized service solutions
  • Maintain accurate service records in Honeywell's CRM system and prepare technical reports for stakeholders
  • Train end-users on system operation, safety procedures, and basic troubleshooting
