Job Overview

The Sr. HSE Specialist – Industrial Hygiene Focus will lead site-wide health, safety, and environmental programs at our Plymouth, MN facility, with a primary emphasis on industrial hygiene. This critical role involves identifying, assessing, and mitigating workplace hazards to protect our employees, ensure regulatory compliance, and safeguard the environment. Reporting directly to the Director of HSE, you will partner with operations, engineering, and leadership teams to drive continuous improvement in safety culture and performance. Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct comprehensive industrial hygiene assessments, including exposure monitoring for chemical, physical, and biological hazards, and recommend engineering and administrative controls.
  • Develop and implement site-specific HSE programs, policies, and procedures aligned with OSHA, EPA, and other federal/state regulations.
  • Lead hazard identification and risk assessment processes, such as Job Hazard Analysis (JHA) and Process Hazard Analysis (PHA), to proactively mitigate risks.
  • Train and coach employees and leaders on industrial hygiene best practices, emergency response, and environmental stewardship.
  • Investigate incidents, perform root cause analysis, and track corrective actions to prevent recurrence and enhance safety metrics.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate HSE into daily operations, capital projects, and continuous improvement initiatives like Lean Six Sigma.
  • Maintain accurate records, prepare regulatory reports, and support audits to ensure compliance and operational excellence.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health, Industrial Hygiene, Environmental Science, Engineering, or a related field (experience)
  • 5+ years of progressive experience in health, safety, and environmental management with a focus on industrial hygiene in a manufacturing or industrial setting (experience)
  • Proven track record of developing and implementing industrial hygiene programs and ensuring OSHA/EPA compliance (experience)
  • Experience conducting exposure assessments, air sampling, noise monitoring, and hazard mitigation in industrial environments (experience)
  • Strong knowledge of federal and state HSE regulations, including OSHA 29 CFR 1910, EPA standards, and NIOSH guidelines (experience)

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Industrial Hygiene, Occupational Health, or related field (experience)
  • CIH (Certified Industrial Hygienist), CSP (Certified Safety Professional), or equivalent professional certification (experience)
  • Experience in aerospace, manufacturing, or chemical processing industries with Lean/Six Sigma exposure (experience)

Responsibilities

  • Perform industrial hygiene monitoring and sampling for airborne contaminants, noise, ventilation, and ergonomics to identify exposure risks
  • Design, implement, and audit HSE programs focused on hazard recognition, control, and employee protection
  • Lead root cause investigations for incidents and near-misses, developing data-driven corrective actions
  • Partner with operations and engineering to integrate safety into design reviews, equipment installations, and process improvements
  • Deliver training programs on industrial hygiene topics, PPE usage, and emergency preparedness to all levels of the organization
  • Prepare and submit regulatory reports, support internal/external audits, and maintain HSE documentation systems
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance safety metrics, culture, and environmental performance
