Sr Quality Engineering Technician (SMT Process)

Overview

Join Honeywell's world-class manufacturing team in Ciudad Juarez, Mexico, as a Sr Quality Engineering Technician (SMT Process). In this on-site role, you will be instrumental in upholding the highest standards of product quality for our advanced electronics assemblies. Reporting directly to the Quality Engineer, you will collaborate with cross-functional teams to support quality control processes, troubleshoot SMT (Surface Mount Technology) production issues, and drive continuous improvement initiatives. Key Responsibilities

  • Perform detailed inspections and audits of SMT assembly lines, utilizing advanced metrology tools to identify defects and ensure compliance with IPC-A-610 standards.
  • Analyze production data using statistical process control (SPC) software to monitor key quality metrics and implement corrective actions for process deviations.
  • Develop and execute failure analysis on non-conforming SMT components, including root cause investigations via 8D methodology and fishbone diagrams.
  • Collaborate with engineering and manufacturing teams to qualify new SMT processes, materials, and equipment, ensuring seamless integration into production workflows.
  • Train production operators on quality standards, SMT best practices, and defect prevention techniques to foster a culture of zero-defect manufacturing.
  • Lead continuous improvement projects, such as Six Sigma initiatives, to optimize yield rates and reduce scrap in high-volume SMT environments.
  • Maintain accurate quality documentation, including control plans, FMEAs, and PPAP submissions, in compliance with ISO 9001 and AS9100 requirements.

Required Qualifications

  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Electronics Engineering, Quality Engineering, or a related technical field (experience)
  • 5+ years of hands-on experience in SMT process quality control within electronics manufacturing (experience)
  • Proven expertise in SMT assembly processes, including reflow soldering, wave soldering, and automated inspection (experience)
  • Experience with statistical process control (SPC), Gage R&R, and quality management systems like ISO 9001 (experience)
  • Familiarity with IPC standards (IPC-A-610, IPC-7711/7721) and soldering rework/repair techniques (experience)

Preferred Qualifications

  • ASQ Certified Quality Technician (CQT) or Certified IPC Trainer (CIT) (experience)
  • Six Sigma Green Belt or Lean Manufacturing certification (experience)
  • Experience with AOI/SPI/X-ray inspection equipment and MES systems (experience)

Responsibilities

  • Conduct in-depth SMT process audits and capability studies to ensure consistent product quality and yield optimization
  • Perform root cause analysis on SMT defects using tools like Pareto charts, 5-Why, and fault tree analysis
  • Develop and maintain quality control plans, inspection criteria, and work instructions for SMT production lines
  • Collaborate with R&D and suppliers to qualify new SMT materials, stencils, and paste formulations
  • Lead Kaizen events and CAPA (Corrective and Preventive Actions) to drive process improvements and reduce variability
  • Train and certify production staff on SMT quality standards and ESD control protocols
  • Generate detailed reports on quality metrics, trends, and improvement initiatives for management review
