Job Description:

Huntsman Corporation is now looking for a dynamic individual as a Research Scientist-Synthesis.

The purpose of Global Research, part of Global Technology & Innovation, is to rapidly develop high-value, sustainable polyurethane solutions that solve critical customer problems and generate near-term revenue while building a robust innovation pipeline for the future.

Contribute to the inception and execution of research projects in the polyurethane area to improve fundamental understanding, develop new products and new or improved processes. 

This position will be based in Mumbai, India.

As a Research Scientist-Synthesis you will: 

Ensure full compliance with safety, health, and environmental guidelines according to site and company standards in all areas of responsibility. Promote safety behaviour according to the above guidelines.

Manage and execute synthesis and manufacturing programs, focusing on the design and development of novel molecules, polyols, and prepolymers for differentiated polyurethane technologies.

Apply deep knowledge of polymer science and polyurethane chemistry to develop innovative solutions from ideation to commercialization including process development, cost optimization, lab-to-pilot scale-up, and technology transfer activities, ensuring scalable and commercially viable processes.

Identify core physical/chemical mechanisms to inspire new research directions and contribute scientific insights for innovation aligned with business goals.

Independently design, plan, and execute innovative and non-routine experimental programs, ensuring high-quality scientific outcomes and efficient resource utilization.

Provide expert consultancy and troubleshooting support to internal stakeholders on complex and non-routine technical challenges.

Prepare and communicate research findings, conclusions, and recommendations effectively through technical reports and presentations, ensuring documentation meets internal standards and receives peer/managerial review.

Monitor relevant literature and competitive IP, contribute to invention disclosures, and help develop and maintain a strategically aligned IP portfolio.

What skills and experiences are we looking for?

Candidate should hold a Doctorate (Ph.D.), with specialist knowledge in the field of molecular design, more specifically synthesis or polymer chemistry.

A first working experience around the topic of sustainability would be a distinct advantage.

The job holder has at least 5 years of experience, ideally within a chemical R&D or manufacturing environment, with a preference for the polyurethane industry.

The person has a high level of initiative, strong analytical thinking, and creative problem-solving skills; capable of working independently and influencing stakeholders across disciplines to drive innovation and deliver impactful results.

The person has strong interpersonal and relationship management skills to build productive networks both within and outside the organization.

The person is proficient in experimental laboratory techniques, chemical literature research, and commonly used scientific and general software tools

The person possesses excellent verbal and written communication skills in English.
