With over 48,000 employees across North America and Europe, we provide customized pharmacy solutions to hospitals, health systems, and integrated providers. Our Health System Pharmacy division specializes in reducing costs while enhancing patient care quality through expert medication management, supply chain optimization, and clinical consulting. At Gibson Area Hospital & Health Services, Cardinal Health manages the pharmacy operations, delivering reliable support for inpatient and outpatient surgery needs.
As a Part-Time Inpatient and Surgery Center Pharmacist with Cardinal Health in Gibson City, IL, you will play a pivotal role in ensuring safe, efficient pharmacy operations across hospital inpatient units and outpatient surgery facilities. This position offers 18-24 hours per week with a flexible schedule, primarily weekdays from 6AM-8PM, and weekends 8AM-6PM as needed. You will train primarily at the inpatient hospital but float to the surgery center, verifying orders, supervising technicians, adjusting dosages, and educating patients. With an anticipated hourly range of $50.10 - $64.53, this role suits licensed pharmacists seeking impactful work in a dynamic hospital environment.
In this Pharmacist II position, you will apply expert knowledge to drive compliant pharmacy operations. Responsibilities include verifying physician orders via pharmacy information systems, addressing automated alerts on drugs, doses, and interactions. You will supervise Pharmacy Technicians, ensuring all work aligns with Illinois Board of Pharmacy regulations, and provide guidance on complex prescriptions and automation systems.
Additional duties encompass adjusting dosages per established protocols, considering patient conditions and concurrent medications, while contributing to antimicrobial stewardship. Patient education is central, particularly for polypharmacy cases, new regimens, or discharges. You will manage narcotics and inventory controls, perform audits, and contact nurses or physicians for order clarifications. Supporting the Pharmacy Director, you will aid in accreditation maintenance and operational improvements like new system implementations.
To succeed, candidates must hold a valid pharmacist license in good standing in Illinois or be willing to obtain one. Preferred experience includes inpatient hospital pharmacy or outpatient surgery settings, with IV experience or willingness to gain it. Flexibility across shifts is essential, alongside strong communication skills for interacting with healthcare professionals and patients.
Other requirements: manual dexterity for handling objects, computer proficiency for multiple pharmacy systems, and potential vendor credentialing. This role demands the ability to apply working knowledge to moderate-scope projects, resolve technical issues within defined parameters, and receive general guidance on new initiatives.
Cardinal Health offers competitive compensation at $50.10 - $64.53 per hour for this part-time role, with no bonus eligibility but robust benefits including 401k contributions and paid time off. Enjoy schedule flexibility in a supportive environment that values work-life balance. Additional perks include professional growth opportunities within a leading healthcare organization, exposure to advanced pharmacy systems, and the satisfaction of improving patient outcomes in a community hospital setting.
