Role Overview

The IoT Solutions Architecture Manager (Americas only) is a pivotal leadership role at Canonical, overseeing a regionally-focused team of Field Engineers in Presales and Professional Services. This home-based, remote position requires location in the Americas to effectively manage a team spanning limited time zones. Canonical's IoT mission centers on enabling secure connected device fleets through Ubuntu OS, kernel, and robust update mechanisms. Our solutions empower mission-critical control systems, gateways, and appliances meeting rigorous quality and security standards, extending best-of-breed open source security to consumer electronics and edge compute markets.

Field Engineers at Canonical are thought leaders tackling complex challenges with hands-on embedded Linux expertise. This role demands a blend of technical prowess, leadership, and business acumen to guide customers toward ambitious goals using Canonical's open source approach.

Key Responsibilities

Team Leadership and Development

• Lead and develop a team of Field Engineers from graduate to senior levels in Presales and Professional Services.
• Coach, mentor, and provide career development feedback.
• Identify and measure team health indicators for continuous improvement.

Customer and Technical Delivery

• Solve customer problems by promoting Canonical technologies as a trusted advisor.
• Represent the team and products to stakeholders, partners, and customers.
• Work remotely within a single major time zone, focusing on Americas.

Operational Excellence

• Implement disciplined engineering processes.
• Develop and evangelize superior engineering and organizational practices.
• Plan and manage progress on agreed goals and projects.
• Collaborate actively as part of the leadership team with other leaders.

Qualifications & Requirements

Canonical seeks exceptional talent with a unique skill fusion for this role:

• Exceptional academic track record from high school and university.
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related technical field.
• Extensive embedded Linux experience, including Yocto or equivalents.
• Deep Linux expertise, preferably Debian or Ubuntu.
• Fluency in at least one of Golang, Python, C, C++, or Rust.
• Proven ability to manage a small team.
• Hands-on experience with customer engagements.
• Professional written and spoken English.
• Excellent interpersonal skills, curiosity, flexibility, and accountability.
• Result-oriented with personal drive to meet commitments.
• Ability to articulate business benefits of technology.
• Humble learner and quick study.

Desirable: RTOS experience, additional programming or human languages, and prior remote-first, diverse company experience.
