Position Summary
Sonoco's Global Information Security team protects our data and technology assets while enabling secure business transformation. We're seeking an IT Security Engineer I for our hybrid role at Corporate Headquarters in Hartsville, SC (2-3 days/week in office). You'll design, implement, and maintain state-of-the-art security infrastructure, support threat detection, monitoring, analysis, mitigation, and response across complex global environments including networks, cloud services, and on-premises systems.
Key Responsibilities
Reporting to the Manager of IT Security Engineering, you'll:
- Manage and operate security controls, perform baselining and trend analysis
- Identify improvements in security toolsets and recommend enhancements
- Build vendor relationships and support policy reviews/audits
- Oversee technical delivery for operational excellence
- Collaborate with stakeholders on emerging security needs
- Assist in incident remediation and investigations
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Cybersecurity, IT, or equivalent experience
- 2-4 years in security engineering
- Experience with security KPIs, metrics, and technology implementation
- Familiarity with enterprise security platforms, networks, cloud, and threat response

- Assist with management, maintenance, and operation of information system security controls and countermeasures
- Identify improvements in existing security toolsets
- Establish and manage relations with vendor/partner organizations
- Assist with security policy reviews, configuration standards, and 3rd-party audits
- Oversee technical delivery and ensure operational excellence
- Provide guidance for daily operational activities
- Benchmark, analyze, and recommend improvements for security standards
- Collaborate with business and technology stakeholders on security needs
- Assist with event/incident remediation and cybersecurity investigations
