Assistant Chief Engineer – JLL

What this job involves: The Assistant Chief Engineer plays a key role in the operation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of all facility equipment and building systems, including HVAC, plumbing, and electrical systems. This position is responsible for supervising, leading, and supporting the engineering team to ensure optimal building performance and safety. The role actively contributes to JLL's business objectives by providing best-in-class customer service, promoting a safe and professional work environment, and supporting cost-saving initiatives through in-house maintenance solutions.

What your day-to-day will look like:

  • Supervisory and maintenance responsibilities encompass overseeing and performing both preventive and corrective maintenance activities on facility mechanical, electrical, plumbing systems, and other installed building components while analyzing and troubleshooting equipment to resolve operational malfunctions.
  • Work order management involves utilizing Computerized Maintenance Management Systems to effectively manage and complete maintenance tasks and work orders while ensuring strict compliance with Service Level Agreements and client-specific Key Performance Indicators for operational excellence.
  • Leadership duties include mentoring and guiding team members while sharing technical expertise in HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and related building systems areas to develop team capabilities and maintain high performance standards across all maintenance activities.
  • Building systems monitoring requires overseeing Building Automation Systems, responding promptly to system alarms, and ensuring effective resolution of issues while maintaining comprehensive records of building rounds, equipment readings, refrigerant logs, and safety policy compliance.
  • Documentation and compliance activities encompass maintaining accurate records in accordance with OSHA regulations and JLL Team Safety Policies while conducting scheduled facility rounds, reporting building conditions, and entering appropriate work orders for timely resolution of identified issues.
  • Customer service excellence involves providing exceptional service to tenants and agencies with minimal disruption to daily operations while supporting after-hours building activities and participating in on-call rotation schedules as operational needs require.
  • Safety and inventory management responsibilities include maintaining clean, safe work environments while ensuring adequate inventory levels of tools, supplies, and Personal Protective Equipment to support effective maintenance operations and regulatory compliance requirements.

Required Qualifications:

  • Educational requirements include a high school diploma or GED equivalent along with technical training or degree in a relevant field to provide foundational knowledge for building engineering and facility maintenance operations.

  • Professional certification mandates maintaining a current Universal EPA/CFC license to ensure proper handling of refrigerants and compliance with environmental regulations governing HVAC system maintenance and repair work.

  • Experience qualifications require a minimum of four years of comprehensive technical experience in all aspects of building engineering including packaged HVAC systems, plumbing, electrical work, production equipment repair, and general building maintenance and repair activities. Licensing requirements include maintaining a valid Tennessee Driver's License for transportation to work sites and service calls throughout the designated service area as part of daily operational responsibilities.

  • Professional competencies encompass the ability to work both independently with minimal supervision and as an effective team member while demonstrating strong interpersonal and communication skills in both verbal and written formats for stakeholder interaction.

  • Technology proficiency requires experience with Microsoft Office products including Outlook, Word, and Excel along with Computerized Maintenance Management Systems and various internet-based software applications for work order management and reporting.

  • Specialized capabilities include effective Corrective and Preventive Action management skills with strict enforcement of Health and Safety regulations while maintaining the ability to respond on-site for emergency service calls within forty-five minutes of notification.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Two years of trade school or completion of a documented apprenticeship in electrical systems, refrigeration, HVAC, plumbing, or other craft skills.

  • Hands-on knowledge of system design, applications, and repairs in commercial buildings.

  • Ability to serve as interim Chief Engineer during absences.

  • Familiarity with OSHA regulations and JLL safety culture.

  • Proactive in identifying and proposing cost savings.

  • Experience in Museum environments and/or historic facilities.

Work Shift:

Tues-Sat 7:00-4:00 with on-call rotation required
Salary/Comp:

$36.00 - $40.00/hr
