Position Summary

The Senior Maintenance Technician - E&I is a highly skilled professional responsible for the safe, reliable, and compliant operation, maintenance, and repair of all electrical, instrumentation, and control systems within the pharmaceutical manufacturing facility. This role is critical for supporting both production and critical utility operations by executing preventative maintenance, advanced troubleshooting, and calibration activities on industrial controls, low/medium voltage power distribution, Building Automation Management Systems (BAMS), and Process Control Systems (PCS). A strong focus on cGMP (current Good Manufacturing Practice) documentation and compliance is essential.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Electrical Systems & Troubleshooting

  • Diagnose, repair, and maintain low (up to 480V) and medium voltage (up to 15kV) electrical distribution systems, motor control centers (MCCs), and associated switchgear
  • Troubleshoot and repair electrical components of HVAC, utility equipment (e.g., chillers, boilers, air compressors), and manufacturing process equipment
  • Execute electrical installations, modifications, and upgrades in strict adherence to NFPA 70 (NEC) and NFPA 70E safety standards

Instrumentation Maintenance and Repair

  • Perform routine maintenance and repair of critical process and utility instrumentation, including but not limited to pressure, temperature, flow and level
  • Utilize calibration standards and test equipment (e.g., decade boxes, field calibrators, loop calibrators) for reference, to ensure instrumentation accuracy and reliability
  • Maintain accurate and compliant calibration records for audit readiness by licensing authorities

Controls & Automation Systems (BAMS/PCS)

  • Provide advanced troubleshooting support for the Building Automation Management System (BAMS) controllers, network devices, and user interface software
  • Work with Process Control Systems (PCS) like PLCs (e.g., Siemens, Rockwell/Allen-Bradley) and HMIs (Human-Machine Interfaces) to diagnose control loop issues and sensor failures
  • Interpret and modify control logic, ladder diagrams, and functional specifications to resolve system faults and optimize control sequences for utility and HVAC systems in accordance with established risk assessment and change control procedures

Documentation, Safety & Compliance

  • Accurately complete all work orders and maintenance logs in the CMMS (Computerized Maintenance Management System)
  • Strictly adhere to all cGMP, SOP (Standard Operating Procedures), and site safety protocols, including, but not limited to, Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) and Arc Flash procedures
  • Assist in generating and reviewing technical documentation, Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), and change control documents

Qualifications

Education

  • High School Diploma or GED required
  • Associate's Degree or Vocational/Technical training in Electrical Technology, Instrumentation, or Industrial Controls highly preferred

Certifications/Licenses

  • Required: State Journeyman Electrician License
  • Preferred: ISA CCST (Certified Control System Technician) Level I or higher, or equivalent industry certification

Experience

  • 10+ years of hands-on experience in industrial maintenance, specifically focusing on electrical systems, instrumentation, and controls in a highly regulated environment
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in the Life Sciences or Pharmaceutical manufacturing industry is mandatory, with a proven track record of working under cGMP and regulatory scrutiny (e.g., FDA, EMA)

Required Skills

  • Expert knowledge of low-voltage industrial electrical systems and motor controls
  • Advanced proficiency in troubleshooting BAMS (e.g., Siemens Apogee/Desigo, Johnson Controls Metasys) and/or industrial PLC/DCS platforms
  • Exceptional ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs), and loop diagrams
  • Strong understanding of metrology principles and practical field calibration techniques
  • Excellent communication, teamwork, and problem-solving skills in a fast-paced environment

Physical Requirements

  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds
  • Ability to work in confined spaces, at heights, and in varying environmental conditions (e.g., mechanical rooms, clean rooms)
  • Ability to stand, walk, climb ladders, and kneel for extended periods

Working Conditions

  • Full-time position
  • Requires participation in an on-call rotation to provide 24/7 emergency support for critical systems
