Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct in-depth fundamental research on utilities sector companies, including financial statement analysis and competitive benchmarking
  • Build and maintain detailed financial models to support investment recommendations and portfolio decisions
  • Monitor industry trends, regulatory changes, and macroeconomic factors impacting utilities equities
  • Collaborate with portfolio managers to provide insights and recommendations for asset allocation
  • Prepare research reports, presentations, and market commentaries for internal and client use
  • Engage with company management teams, attend industry conferences, and perform due diligence site visits
  • Support the development of investment theses and contribute to sector strategy within the US Equity Research team
  • Analyze earnings reports, guidance, and peer performance to identify opportunities and risks
  • Assist in the evaluation of merger, acquisition, and divestiture activities in the utilities space
  • Contribute to the team's coverage of ESG-related themes in utilities investing

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Economics, Business Administration, or a related field
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in equity research, particularly in the utilities sector
  • Strong understanding of financial modeling, valuation techniques, and market analysis
  • Proficiency in financial databases and research tools such as Bloomberg, FactSet, or Capital IQ
  • Excellent analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex financial data
  • Series 7 and Series 63 licenses or willingness to obtain them
  • CFA designation or progress toward completion is highly desirable

Preferred Qualifications

  • Advanced degree (MBA or Master's in Finance) from a top-tier institution
  • Prior experience working at a bulge-bracket investment bank or asset management firm
  • Deep knowledge of regulatory environments affecting the utilities industry, including FERC and state PUC regulations
