Key Responsibilities

• Lead the design, development, and maintenance of backend services for Chase UK's digital banking platform
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams including frontend engineers, product managers, and data scientists to deliver innovative features
• Implement scalable, secure, and high-performance APIs that handle high-volume transactions in compliance with financial regulations
• Mentor and guide junior engineers, fostering a culture of code quality and best practices
• Conduct code reviews, optimize system performance, and troubleshoot complex issues in production environments
• Integrate third-party services and ensure seamless data flow within the Chase ecosystem
• Contribute to architectural decisions, including migration to cloud-native technologies and microservices architecture
• Monitor system health, implement observability tools, and drive continuous improvement initiatives
• Stay abreast of emerging technologies and recommend innovations to enhance the digital banking experience

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field
• Minimum of 7+ years of professional software engineering experience, with at least 3 years focused on backend development
• Proven experience in designing and implementing scalable backend systems in a financial services environment
• Strong proficiency in Java or similar backend languages, with experience in building RESTful APIs and microservices
• Experience with cloud platforms such as AWS or Azure, and containerization tools like Docker and Kubernetes
• Knowledge of secure coding practices and compliance with financial regulations like GDPR and PSD2
• Demonstrated ability to lead engineering teams and mentor junior developers

Preferred Qualifications

• Master's degree in Computer Science or a related discipline
• Experience working in the banking or fintech sector, particularly with digital banking platforms
• Familiarity with agile methodologies and tools like Jira or Confluence
• Certifications in cloud computing (e.g., AWS Certified Developer) or cybersecurity
• Prior involvement in launching or scaling consumer-facing digital products

Required Skills

• Expertise in Java, Spring Boot, or equivalent backend frameworks
• Proficiency in SQL/NoSQL databases like PostgreSQL or MongoDB
• Experience with message queues and event-driven architectures (e.g., Kafka, RabbitMQ)
• Strong understanding of RESTful and GraphQL APIs
• Knowledge of cloud services (AWS, Azure) and DevOps tools (CI/CD pipelines, Jenkins)
• Familiarity with security protocols, encryption, and authentication (OAuth, JWT)
• Skills in performance tuning and scalability for high-traffic applications
• Problem-solving and analytical thinking in complex, fast-paced environments
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills for team leadership
• Agile development practices and version control (Git)
• Understanding of financial domain concepts like payments processing and fraud detection
