Key Responsibilities

  • Provide legal advice on asset management products, including mutual funds, ETFs, and alternative investments, ensuring compliance with APAC regulations
  • Draft, review, and negotiate fund documentation, investment management agreements, and distribution arrangements
  • Advise on regulatory filings and interactions with authorities like the Hong Kong Securities and Futures Commission (SFC)
  • Support cross-border initiatives, including market entry strategies and partnership agreements in the APAC region
  • Conduct legal due diligence for acquisitions, mergers, and new product launches in asset management
  • Collaborate with compliance, risk, and business teams to mitigate legal risks and develop policies
  • Handle litigation and dispute resolution related to investment funds and client matters
  • Stay abreast of evolving regulations in financial services and provide training to internal stakeholders
  • Assist in the development of governance frameworks for asset management operations in Hong Kong

Required Qualifications

  • Juris Doctor (JD) or equivalent law degree from an accredited institution
  • Qualified to practice law in Hong Kong or another common law jurisdiction with at least 7-10 years of relevant post-qualification experience in financial services
  • Proven experience in asset management legal matters, including regulatory compliance and fund structuring
  • Strong understanding of APAC regulatory frameworks, such as those from the SFC in Hong Kong and similar bodies in other jurisdictions
  • Experience advising on cross-border transactions and investment management products
  • Ability to manage complex legal issues in a fast-paced, high-stakes environment

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior in-house legal experience at a major financial institution or asset management firm
  • Familiarity with ESG investing regulations and sustainable finance initiatives in APAC
  • Advanced degree or certification in finance, such as CFA or equivalent
  • Experience with private equity, hedge funds, or alternative investments
  • Fluency in Mandarin or Cantonese, in addition to English
