Key Responsibilities

• Lead the design, development, and maintenance of robust mainframe and Java-based applications supporting JP Morgan's core banking and trading platforms
• Collaborate with business stakeholders to translate financial requirements into scalable technical solutions, ensuring alignment with regulatory and risk management standards
• Mentor and guide a team of software engineers, fostering best practices in code quality, testing, and deployment within an agile framework
• Drive modernization efforts by integrating legacy mainframe systems with modern Java microservices, optimizing for performance and cost-efficiency
• Conduct code reviews, troubleshoot complex issues in production environments, and implement proactive monitoring for high-availability financial systems
• Partner with global teams in New York, London, and other hubs to deliver cross-border solutions for asset management and corporate banking
• Innovate on security protocols to protect sensitive financial data, incorporating encryption and access controls in line with JP Morgan's cybersecurity policies
• Contribute to strategic initiatives, such as AI/ML enhancements for fraud detection or real-time analytics in trading applications
• Document technical architectures and ensure compliance with internal audit requirements for financial reporting systems

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field; Master's degree preferred
• 8+ years of professional software engineering experience, with at least 5 years in mainframe technologies (e.g., COBOL, JCL, CICS, DB2) and Java development
• Proven track record of leading complex projects in a financial services environment, delivering high-impact solutions for banking or trading systems
• Strong understanding of agile methodologies and experience with CI/CD pipelines in a large-scale enterprise setting
• Demonstrated ability to mentor junior engineers and collaborate across cross-functional teams in a global organization
• Experience with regulatory compliance standards such as GDPR, SOX, or PCI-DSS in financial applications
• Excellent problem-solving skills with a focus on scalability and performance optimization in mission-critical systems

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with JP Morgan's internal tools and frameworks, such as proprietary mainframe modernization initiatives
• Knowledge of cloud migration strategies for mainframe applications to hybrid environments (e.g., AWS or Azure integration)
• Certification in Java (e.g., Oracle Certified Professional) or mainframe technologies (e.g., IBM z/OS)
• Prior work in high-frequency trading, risk management, or payment processing systems at a tier-1 bank
• Familiarity with DevOps practices using tools like Jenkins, Git, and Docker in a financial context
