Position Summary
The Commercial Credit Underwriter (1mm-10mm commitments) plays a critical role in assessing creditworthiness for existing and prospective commercial clients. This mid-level position involves independent workflow management, loan structuring, and risk analysis under the supervision of Underwriting Team Leaders. You'll make lending decisions within your authority and provide expert recommendations to maintain KeyBank's asset quality while ensuring regulatory compliance.
Key Responsibilities
Core Underwriting Duties
- Evaluate loan requests, identifying purpose, risks, and collateral adequacy.
- Analyze financial statements, cash flow, tax returns, and industry trends to gauge profitability and credit risk.
- Apply accounting principles to financial modeling and interpret risk rating outputs.
- Develop comprehensive credit write-ups and structure loans within delegated authority.
Portfolio Management & Collaboration
- Monitor deteriorating credits, initiate annual reviews, and test borrowing base certificates.
- Review loan documentation for accuracy and maintain credit files with spreadsheets and dashboards.
- Mentor Credit Analysts and partner with bankers to streamline credit processes.
- Participate in risk management projects and process improvements.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in finance, accounting, economics, or business (or equivalent experience).
- 2+ years in commercial underwriting, credit analysis, or banking.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, financial models, and credit methodologies.
- Exceptional analytical, research, and communication skills for complex data synthesis.
