Position Summary

As Principal UX Researcher, Product, you will serve as a senior leader within the Client Experience Design team. This hybrid role (3 days per week in office at Zero Irving, New York, NY) bridges human-centered design, business strategy, and product development. Drive strategic direction for KeyBank’s product experiences, influence roadmaps, and mentor cross-functional teams to deliver scalable, client-focused solutions.

Key Responsibilities

Strategic Leadership

  • Define UX strategy aligned with business goals and client needs
  • Partner with product, design, and engineering to shape vision and roadmaps
  • Translate research into frameworks, principles, and design direction

Product Design Execution

  • Lead user flows, journey maps, and experience strategies
  • Oversee UX/UI execution with Key’s Design System
  • Conduct research, ideation, prototyping, and testing per HCD framework

Collaboration & Mentorship

  • Facilitate workshops and advise senior stakeholders
  • Mentor UX designers and evolve design practices
  • Champion user-centered design across the organization

Required Qualifications

  • 8+ years in UX strategy, research, or product design leadership
  • Expertise in HCD, service design, UX research methodologies
  • Strong portfolio with measurable impact
  • Agile experience, Figma proficiency, exceptional communication
  • Degree in design, HCI, or related field

Preferred: Financial services experience, HTML/CSS/JS familiarity, enterprise design systems.

  • Strong portfolio demonstrating strategic thinking, design leadership, and measurable impact (experience)
  • Experience working in Agile environments (experience)
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in design, HCI, Strategy, or related field (experience)

Responsibilities

  • Define and drive UX strategy across digital product portfolios
  • Partner with product owners, designers, and engineers to shape product vision
  • Lead development of user flows, journey maps, and experience strategies
  • Conduct generative user and competitive research
  • Mentor and develop a team of design strategists / UX designers
  • Facilitate workshops and working sessions with cross-functional teams
