Position Summary

The Sr. Data Science Manager - Financial Crimes reports to the Director of Financial Crimes Modeling & Analytics and leads a quantitative team in developing advanced models for AML/BSA/OFAC compliance. This strategic leadership role involves owning modeling practices, influencing data strategy, and partnering with executives to drive impactful solutions. Remote work is supported, with relocation preferred to Cleveland, OH or Buffalo, NY.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead a team of 2-4 professionals in building models and analytics for financial crime detection.
  • Evaluate datasets for quality and model suitability, employing Python, SAS, and ML techniques.
  • Innovate to enhance model performance, reducing false positives and improving efficiency.
  • Coach team members on technical skills and business acumen while promoting their capabilities.
  • Collaborate across compliance, technology, and risk functions to deliver organizational impact.
  • Provide thought leadership and strategic advice to senior executives on data-driven risk metrics.

Required Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in a quantitative field and 5+ years in AML/BSA/OFAC modeling.
  • Expertise in traditional modeling, ML/AI, and Generative AI; hands-on Python/SAS coding.
  • Proficiency in SQL, cloud/distributed computing, and financial crime regulations.
  • Proven management experience with strong communication for non-technical audiences.
  • Advanced skills in Microsoft Office, data structures, ETL processes, and model governance.
