Job Overview

The Bakery/Deli Clerk at Kroger plays a vital role in our grocery stores by preparing, stocking, and serving high-quality bakery and deli products to customers. This position ensures a welcoming shopping experience in the fresh food departments, focusing on freshness, presentation, and customer satisfaction. Bakery/Deli Clerks handle a variety of tasks including baking simple items, slicing meats and cheeses, assembling deli platters, and maintaining sanitary conditions in accordance with food safety standards.

Key Responsibilities

• Prepare and package bakery items such as breads, cakes, pastries, and deli meats/cheeses for display and sale.
• Provide exceptional customer service by assisting shoppers with product recommendations, special orders, and questions about ingredients or allergens.
• Maintain department displays to ensure attractive merchandising, proper stock rotation, and compliance with FIFO (First In, First Out) inventory practices.
• Operate equipment like slicers, ovens, and wrapping machines safely and efficiently.
• Follow all health and sanitation guidelines, including cleaning workstations, sanitizing surfaces, and proper food handling to prevent contamination.

Skills and Qualifications

Candidates should have strong attention to detail, the ability to work in a fast-paced environment, and a passion for food service. Physical stamina is required for standing, lifting up to 50 lbs, and repetitive tasks. Previous experience in retail, food service, or grocery is preferred but not mandatory, as Kroger provides comprehensive on-the-job training.
