Job Overview

The Garden Center/Department Leader at Kroger is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the garden center, ensuring exceptional customer service, and driving sales in seasonal and outdoor living products. This leadership role involves managing a team of associates, maintaining merchandise displays, and optimizing inventory to meet customer demands in plants, gardening supplies, lawn care, and outdoor decor.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and motivate a team of garden center associates to achieve sales targets and provide outstanding customer service.
• Monitor and maintain optimal stock levels, including ordering, receiving, and merchandising seasonal products like flowers, shrubs, fertilizers, and tools.
• Ensure the department complies with safety standards, including proper handling of pesticides and outdoor equipment.
• Develop and execute promotional strategies, such as spring planting events and holiday displays, to boost department revenue.
• Train staff on product knowledge, customer engagement techniques, and operational procedures specific to the garden center.

Customer Focus

Act as a product expert, advising customers on gardening tips, plant care, and project ideas to enhance satisfaction and loyalty. Collaborate with other departments for cross-selling opportunities.

Leadership and Performance

Report to store management on key metrics like sales performance, inventory turnover, and customer feedback. Implement loss prevention measures and maintain a clean, attractive department environment. This position requires flexibility for seasonal demands, including early mornings and weekends.
