Job Overview

The Meat/Asst Dept Leader at Kroger is a key leadership role in the fresh meat department of our grocery stores. This position supports the Meat Department Leader in overseeing daily operations, ensuring product quality, customer satisfaction, and team performance. You will assist in managing inventory, merchandising, and compliance with food safety standards while fostering a positive work environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Assist in leading a team of meat cutters, wrappers, and associates to meet sales goals and maintain department standards.
• Oversee meat preparation, cutting, grinding, and packaging to ensure freshness and presentation.
• Monitor inventory levels, order supplies, and reduce shrink through efficient stock management.
• Provide exceptional customer service, offering product recommendations and handling inquiries.
• Ensure compliance with health, safety, and sanitation regulations, including USDA guidelines.
• Train and develop team members on best practices in meat handling and customer service.
• Analyze sales data to optimize product assortment and merchandising strategies.
• Collaborate with store leadership to execute promotions and special orders.

Qualifications and Skills

Candidates should have prior experience in meat department operations, strong leadership abilities, and knowledge of food safety. This role requires physical stamina for standing, lifting up to 50 lbs, and working in a refrigerated environment. Excellent communication and problem-solving skills are essential for success in this fast-paced retail setting.
