Job Overview

The Meat/Journeyman position at Kroger is a skilled role within the Meat Department, responsible for processing, cutting, preparing, and merchandising high-quality meat products to meet customer needs and company standards. As a Journeyman, you will work alongside experienced butchers to ensure product freshness, safety, and presentation excellence in a fast-paced grocery environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Accurately cut, trim, grind, and prepare meat products including beef, pork, poultry, and seafood according to Kroger specifications and customer orders.
• Maintain strict adherence to food safety and sanitation standards, including proper handling, storage, and temperature control to prevent contamination.
• Merchandise meat cases with attractive displays, label products correctly, and manage inventory to minimize waste and ensure availability.
• Provide exceptional customer service by offering product recommendations, special cuts, and advice on meat preparation and cooking.
• Operate meat department equipment such as saws, grinders, slicers, and wrappers safely and efficiently.
• Assist in receiving deliveries, inspecting product quality, and rotating stock using FIFO method.
• Collaborate with department team to meet sales goals, prepare for promotions, and maintain department cleanliness.

Skills and Qualifications

Candidates should possess strong knife skills, knowledge of meat cuts, and the ability to work in a refrigerated environment. Physical stamina is required for lifting up to 50 lbs and standing for extended periods. Prior experience in meat processing is preferred, with on-the-job training provided for Journeyman development.
