Job Overview

The Meat/Journeyman position at Kroger is a skilled role within the Meat Department, focused on preparing, cutting, and merchandising high-quality meat products to meet customer needs. As a Journeyman, you will work alongside experienced butchers to ensure product freshness, safety, and presentation standards are maintained in a fast-paced grocery environment. This role requires precision in meat handling, knowledge of cuts, and a commitment to food safety protocols.

Key Responsibilities

• Accurately cut, trim, grind, and prepare meat products including beef, pork, poultry, and seafood according to customer specifications and store standards.
• Ensure all meat products are properly labeled, priced, and displayed to maximize sales and minimize waste.
• Maintain sanitation and hygiene standards in compliance with USDA, FDA, and Kroger safety guidelines.
• Assist customers with product selection, recommendations, and special orders to enhance satisfaction.
• Monitor inventory levels, rotate stock, and report shortages to department management.
• Operate meat processing equipment such as saws, grinders, and slicers safely and efficiently.
• Support team efforts during peak hours, including wrapping, weighing, and stocking shelves.

Skills and Qualifications

Candidates should possess intermediate proficiency in meat cutting techniques, strong knowledge of food safety, and customer service skills. Physical stamina is essential for standing long periods and lifting up to 50 lbs. Prior experience in a grocery meat department is preferred. Kroger provides ongoing training for Journeyman certification.
