Job Overview

The Sr COE Governance & Benefits Manager at Kroger plays a pivotal role in overseeing the Centers of Excellence (COE) for governance and employee benefits programs across our retail operations. This position ensures compliance with regulatory standards, optimizes benefits strategies, and drives governance frameworks to support Kroger's 2,700+ stores and millions of associates. Reporting to the Director of Total Rewards, you will lead initiatives that enhance employee satisfaction, control costs, and align with corporate objectives in a dynamic retail environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement governance policies for COE operations, ensuring alignment with federal and state regulations such as ERISA, HIPAA, and ACA.
  • Manage the design, administration, and continuous improvement of comprehensive benefits programs including health insurance, retirement plans, and wellness initiatives.
  • Collaborate with HR business partners, legal, finance, and vendor partners to audit benefits compliance and mitigate risks.
  • Lead cross-functional projects to launch new benefits offerings, leveraging data analytics to measure ROI and employee engagement.
  • Provide strategic consultation to senior leadership on benefits trends, governance best practices, and cost containment strategies.
  • Oversee vendor management for benefits providers, negotiating contracts to optimize value and service delivery.
  • Conduct training sessions and communicate benefits updates to associates and managers enterprise-wide.

Qualifications and Skills

Ideal candidates bring 8+ years of progressive HR experience in benefits and governance, with proven expertise in retail or large-scale organizations. A bachelor's degree in HR, Business, or related field is required; CHP or CEBS certification preferred. Strong analytical skills and proficiency in HRIS systems like Workday are essential.
