L3Harris is seeking a skilled and driven Composite Manufacturing Engineer to join our Advanced Manufacturing Facility North (AMFN) in Toney, Alabama — the premier site for inert manufacturing, fabrication, and assembly of composite rocket motor hardware.  In this role, you’ll be part of a dynamic, hands-on team responsible for turning engineering designs into real-world aerospace hardware. You’ll develop, optimize, and lead advanced composite manufacturing processes for filament winding, hand layup, and composite curing, ensuring every component meets the highest standards of precision, performance, and safety.

Essential Functions:

  • Drive innovation in composites: Plan, develop, and maintain advanced processes for composite fabrication — from concept through production.
  • Build excellence into every detail: Create clear and thorough work instructions, PFMEAs, JSAs, and other process documentation that ensure quality, safety, and compliance.
  • Be a hands-on problem solver: Support shop floor activities, troubleshoot production issues, and provide real-time engineering guidance.
  • Collaborate across disciplines: Work closely with design, production, and quality teams to align manufacturing methods with engineering intent and customer expectations.
  • Promote technical mastery: Train and mentor technicians and peers in advanced composite techniques and process best practices.
  • Own quality and improvement: Investigate nonconformances, identify root causes, and implement corrective actions to drive continuous improvement.
  • Represent your work with pride: Present manufacturing processes and updates during customer reviews and engineering change board meetings.
  • Ability to obtain US Security Clearance. 

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree and minimum 4 years of prior relevant Manufacturing Engineering experience. Graduate Degree and a minimum of 2 years of prior related engineering experience. In lieu of a degree, minimum of 8 years of prior related engineering experience.
  • 1+ year of experience manufacturing composites and/or aerospace hardware.

Preferred Additional Skills:

  • Degree in Mechanical, Manufacturing, Aerospace, or Chemical Engineering.
  • Hands-on experience laying up composite parts or creating composite samples.
  • Experience with filament winding (4- or 5-axis machine programming and operation).
  • Familiarity with composite curing processes and oven operation/programming.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills — you’re the bridge between design and production.
