The Lead Designer, Running Footwear Materials Design Create & Expression, plays a pivotal role in Nike's Running category. Reporting to the Running Footwear Materials Design Director, you will collaborate with Footwear Industrial Design, Color Design, Graphic Design, Digital Design, Marketing, and Development teams. This position focuses on innovating materials that blend performance, trend relevance, and storytelling to create emotional connections with athletes and consumers. Work across diverse Running products, from concept to execution, driving Nike's purpose-driven sustainability goals.
In this dynamic role, your responsibilities include developing technically complex material designs using the latest innovations. You will curate and refresh existing materials for collection models, spanning the full product creation process. Daily tasks involve ideation, building 3D samples and hand-crafted mockups, finalizing tech packs, and partnering with manufacturers to ensure design integrity. Engage directly with athletes, present concepts confidently, and manage multiple seasonal projects under tight timelines. Your leadership will inspire teams and elevate Nike Running footwear.
Expect a fast-paced environment where you translate consumer insights into compelling narratives. Leverage manufacturing processes to pioneer new techniques and materials, fostering sustainability while meeting athlete needs on and off the field.
Nike seeks an exceptional leader with a Bachelor’s degree in Design, Art, Fashion Design, Product Design, Industrial Design, Accessory and Footwear Design, or Textile Design—or a Master’s in one of these fields. Equivalent education, experience, and training combinations are welcome. Ideally, bring 4+ years of relevant experience pushing material design boundaries, with expertise in Textile or Footwear Design.
A strong grasp of the Footwear Product Creation process is a plus. Be organized, self-motivated, and ready to present to diverse audiences.
