Position Summary

The Leader - North American Payroll, based in Hartsville, SC, oversees payroll operations within Global Business Services (GBS). This hybrid role (2-3 days in office) ensures timely, accurate processing of hourly and salaried payroll across multiple states, full regulatory compliance, and strong collaboration with Finance, Technology, and Continuous Improvement teams. Drive strategic initiatives in people development, process optimization, and exceptional employee experiences.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage payroll processing for accuracy, efficiency, and compliance with local, state, federal laws, SOX, and GAAP.
  • Build partnerships with stakeholders to implement best practices and new standards.
  • Lead strategic execution in People (competency assessments, development plans, performance reviews), Experience (issue triage, audits, scorecards), and Process (KPIs, reconciliations, Lean projects, waste reduction).
  • Foster high-performing teams through motivation, upskilling, and career pathing.
  • Champion continuous improvement and proactive problem-solving to minimize errors and enhance operations.

Required Qualifications

  • 7-10 years leading large, multi-state payroll organizations.
  • Proficiency in Workday, Equifax, ADP, ServiceNow.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Business Administration, or related field.
  • Deep expertise in payroll preparation, balancing, taxes, internal controls.
  • Strong SOX/GAAP compliance experience and change management mindset.
  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and team-building skills.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee processing of hourly and salaried payroll ensuring timeliness, accuracy, and compliance with company policies and regulations
  • Serve as primary connection between payroll operations, Continuous Improvement, Technology partners, and Finance stakeholders
  • Assess and implement new standards for compliance, efficiency, accuracy, SOX, and accounting practices
  • Execute strategic plans in People, Experience, and Process areas including employee development, issue triage, KPI management, and Lean projects
  • Drive employee competency assessments, motivation, performance reviews, and career pathing
  • Lead failure analysis, process scorecards, audits, reconciliations, and continuous improvement initiatives
